David Chapman, Honorary Associate in the Critical Information Studies group at the Open University, has a BA in Physics from the University of Oxford (1980), an MSc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Aston (1984), and a PhD in Optical Fibre Networking from the Open University (2004). He is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He worked on the design of optical fibre communication systems for Plessey Telecommunications from 1980 until 1986 when he joined the Open University as a Lecturer in Electronics. His current research interest is in understanding the nature of information, which he blogs about at http://www.intropy.co.uk/
