Dr. Idris Nasir Abdullahi

Short Biography

My primary research interest focuses on the evolution and eco-biology of pathogens and molecular epidemiology of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). I was a Marie Curie researcher for three years at the OneHealth-UR research group of the University of La Rioja (Spain). This led me to earn a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences and Biotechnology with exceptional findings that have already been peer-reviewed and published in over a dozen articles in SJR-Q1 or -Q2 journals. Before my PhD studies in Spain, I earned Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in medical microbiology in Nigeria. Thereafter, I worked in microbiology laboratories where my work focused mainly on laboratory investigations for the diagnosis, surveillance, and research on tropical and zoonotic infections. These have led to numerous publications in reputable and high-impact factor journals; among these papers, I am the lead author in >70 % of 100 articles (H index of 21) . Moreover, I worked as a lecturer at the medical college of Ahmadu Bello University from 2019 to 2021 and from 18 January 2024 to present. In recognition of the output and quality of my research, I was awarded “the Researcher of the Year” and “the Most Cited Staff of the Year” of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, by the management of Ahmadu Bello University. I am now committed to the development and sustaining of my research group “One Health Ecology and Molecular Microbiology (OHEMM)” and mentoring young researchers at my University in Nigeria.
