Dr. Ramon Eritja is Research Professor of the Nucleic Acids Chemistry group at the Institute for Advanced Chemistry of Catalonia (IQAC) of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). He obtained his PhD in chemistry from the University of Barcelona (UB) in 1983. He was postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Itakura’s (Beckman Research Institute at City of Hope, USA, 1984-1988) and Dr. Caruthers’s (University of Colorado at Boulder, USA, 1988-1989) laboratories. He moved to UB, (1989-1990) and CSIC, Barcelona (1990-1994). He was Group Leader at EMBL, Germany (1994-1999). He returned to CSIC, Barcelona (1999) and he was invited member at the IRB Barcelona, 2006-2012) and selected as member of the Networking Center on Bioengineering, Biomaterials and Nanomedicine (CIBER-BBN) since 2006. He was Director of IQAC (2012-2017). His research interests are centred on the synthesis and properties of nucleic acids derivatives including siRNA, antisense, aptamers, oligonucleotide conjugates and DNA nanotechnology.
