Dr. Levine is currently serving as a Research Director at the University of California, Santa Cruz. She was the Program Director at the National Science Foundation (NSF) in Arlington,VA. She is also affiliated with Flinders University (Adelaide, South Australia) as a Strategic Professor in Energy and Environment. She is a Fulbright Senior Specialist and recently returned from South Africa where she was hosted by the Water Research Commission to collaborate on research related to water systems and the water-food-energy nexus. Her career path has spanned academia, government, and industry. She is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) and a Board Certified Environmental Engineer (BCEE) with extensive practical experience in science and engineering research, teaching, and practice. She has been actively involved in research on water systems for several decades and has significant expertise in treatment technologies particularly with respect to water reuse, drinking water systems, clean technologies, industrial water management, and climate adaptation. From 2006‐2011, Dr. Levine served as the National Program Director (NPD) for Drinking Water Research in the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Office of Research and Development (ORD) where she worked on policy-relevant water issues including characterizing and managing risks associated with emerging contaminants, water borne pathogens, distribution systems, hydraulic fracturing, and numerous other topics. She has also held faculty academic appointments at several universities (University of South Florida, Utah State University, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Iowa State University) where she conducted applied research in environmental engineering, water systems, water reuse, public health protection, and environmental policy. Dr. Levine’s academic background is interdisciplinary and she holds a Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering (University of California at Davis), an M.S. in Public Health (Tulane University), and an undergraduate degree in Biology (Bates College).
