Professor Lawal MarafaDirector, Postgraduate Programme in Sustainable Tourism Department of Geography and Resource Management, The Chinese University of Hong Kong
Dr. Lawal Marafa, is a professor at the Department of Geography and Resource Management, Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is also the Director, Postgraduate programme in Sustainable Tourism. Dr. Marafa has published over 70 manuscripts in academic and various media and has participated and presented at over 30 international conferences. His teaching and research interests include Ecotourism, Tourism Policy, Tourism and Environment, Natural Resource Management, Leisure, Recreation Planning and Management, Sustainable Development and Knowledge Sharing and Management for Development. Dr. Marafa was awarded the “Exemplary Teacher Award” for outstanding teaching performance in 2005. Dr. Marafa is also the recipient of the Royal Belum Inaugural Ecotourism Award, Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia, 2007 and served as a facilitator at the Clinton Global Initiative meeting in Hong Kong, December 2008. Dr. Marafa is a Member of the New York Academy of Sciences (1999), Member of the International Ecotourism Society, Member of Board of Directors of World Leisure Organization, Member, Commission on the Geography of Tourism, Leisure and Global Change; International Geographical Union; Member of the Sustainable Tourism Study Group of the National Geographic, Member World Leisure UN Commission among other associations of professional and academic relevance.
