Alan Colin Brent is a Professor and inaugural holder of the Chair in Sustainable Energy Systems at the School of Engineering and Computer Science, Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. Alan Brent is registered as professional engineer with an MSc in Environmental Engineering (Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden), MPhil in Sustainable Development (Stellenbosch University), and an MEng in Technology Management and PhD in Engineering Management (University of Pretoria, South Africa). He has over twenty years of experience in the industry, and at Stellenbosch University he worked as a Professor for the Sustainable Development programme of the School of Public Leadership, Associate Director at the Centre for Renewable and Sustainable Energy Studies, and Professor and currently Extraordinary Professor of Engineering Management and Sustainable Systems at the Department of Industrial Engineering. He and his former PhD student, Dr Marco Lotz, published their Carbon Footprinting Guide in 2014, for which they won the SANAE Energy Education Award.
