Célia M. Gouveia graduated in geophysical sciences from the University of Lisbon (Portugal) and received her PhD from the University of Lisbon. Dr. Gouveia initiated her research career in climate variability and extreme events, such as fires, droughts, and heatwaves. Her PhD in remote sensing allows her to relate these previous topics with the assessment of vegetation dynamics using satellite information. Currently, Dr Gouveia is a senior researcher at Earth Observation Unit of Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera, IPMA (Portugal). Her research topics include remote sensing applications related to wildfires, droughts, heat extremes, and crop yields and crop losses, among others.
