Dr. Marc G. Ghany

Short Biography

Dr. Marc G. Ghany is a Senior Investigator and Chief of the Clinical Hepatology Research Section, Liver Diseases Branch, National Institutes of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, National Institutes of Health (NIH), Bethesda, Maryland. He graduated from medical school at the Royal College of Surgeons in the Republic of Ireland. He completed his internship and residency training at St. Raphael's Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut, and his Gastroenterology training at Tulane University, New Orleans. He completed a Hepatology fellowship at the NIH in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Ghany obtained a Masters in Clinical Research from Duke University. He is an internationally recognized leader in the hepatitis B and C field. He served as co-chair of the AASLD practice guideline on diagnosing, managing, and treating hepatitis C. He was a primary investigator on the NIH-funded Hepatitis B Research Network. He has served as an advisor for the CDC, NASEM, and FDA. He has mentored over 30 students and Hepatology Fellows, many of whom have taken leadership positions in the field of hepatology.
