On behalf of the organizing committee, you are cordially invited to participate in the first International Electronic Conference on Clinical Medicine. This event aims to bring together researchers working in the field of clinical medicine, to present and discuss their recent contributions, without the need for travel. Participation is free of charge for authors and attendees. In addition, there will be webinars organized during this e-conference.

This conference will address and promote all the multi-disciplinary aspects of clinical medicine. The topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

All submitted abstracts will be reviewed by the conference committee. The authors of accepted contributions will be invited to submit a conference paper, along with a slide or video presentation, or a poster presentation of their work. All participants will have the opportunity to examine, explore, and critically engage with research findings published in Sciforum during the conference.

After the conference, all accepted papers will be published in the proceedings of this e-conference within a dedicated issue of the MDPI journal Biology and Life Sciences Forum. In addition, all participants will be encouraged to submit a full paper to be considered for publication in the Journal of Clinical Medicine (JCM), with a 10% discount on the APC. JCM is an open access journal from the MDPI, in the field of clinical medicine. The journal is indexed in the Sciences Citation Indexing Expended (SCIE IF=3.303), and other databases. Full texts are archived in PubMed Central (PMC).

Eyal Sheiner, MD, PhD is Deichmann-Lerner Full Professor. He is the Chairman of Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology B at the Soroka University Medical Center, and the Vice Dean, Student Affair, Faculty of Health Sciences, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. His PhD study and ultrasound fellowship at Rush University Medical Center (Chicago, Il) were supported by a grant from the Fulbright Scholar Program of the United States. Professor Sheiner has published extensively in the area of perinatal epidemiology, and has more than 560 peered-reviewed publications. He is the editor of 10 books.

Prof. Yariv Yogev

Prof. Yogev is the past President of the Israel Society for Maternal and Fetal Medicine, past moderator of the diabetes in pregnancy program in the American Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine (SMFM)

Prof. Nir Melamed

Dr. Melamed is a staff physician in the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Division at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Toronto, Canada, and an Associate Professor at University of Toronto. Dr. Melamed is the recipient of the Waugh Family Chair in Twin Research at the University of Toronto and is the Director of the Sunnybrook Twin Research Center (https://twincentre.sunnybrook.ca/). Dr. Melamed has co-authored over 180 original research papers. His main topics of interest include twin pregnancies, placental disease, and fetal growth.

Gali Pariente, MD, Senior Lecturer at the Ben Gurion University of the Negev, acting director of Fetal- Maternal Unit B in the Division of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Soroka University Medical Center. Trained in the Faculty of Heath Science at Ben Gurion University, and after a fellowship program at the University of Toronto, Dr. Pariente is a Maternal and Fetal Medicine specialist, provides care for women with pregnancy complications. Hence, Dr. Pariente devotes her research to clinical as well as epidemiological and basic science aspects of human pathological conditions during pregnancy. Dr. Pariente has published studies regarding pregnancy complications and long-term maternal and offspring morbidity of different ethnical populations of the Negev District.

Dr. Gianluca Pellino

Gianluca Pellino has an M.D. degree. He is Ph.D. in Traslational Medicine. and serves as Lecturer in General Surgery at the Università della Campania "Luigi Vanvitelli", Naples, Italy . He has served as Colorectal Surgeon at the Unit of Colorectal Surgery of University Hospital "La Fe", Valencia, Spain, as 2017 European Coloproctology Fellow. Dr Pellino has studied medicine at the Medical University of Naples and graduated in 2008. He completed the Residency Programme in General Surgery in 2016. He completed the ESCP 6-month Fellowship 2016 at the Colorectal Surgery Unit of the Royal Marsden Hospital, London. Bernhard Lämmle, M.D., was Full Professor of Hematology and Director of the Department of Hematology and the Central Hematology Laboratory at the University Hospital of Bern, Switzerland, from 1989 until his retirement in July 2013. He then became a guest professor and senior consultant at the Center for Thrombosis and Hemostasis at the University Medical Center, Mainz, Germany. Since 2019 he is visiting professor at University College London Haemostasis Research Unit. His scientific interest concerns clinical and laboratory aspects of hematology, hemostasis and thrombosis with a special focus on thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura and the metalloprotease ADAMTS13. Bernhard Lämmle has coauthored more than 300 publications and held many educational and state-of-the-art lectures at international congresses. He is recipient of an Investigator Recognition Award by the International Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) (2003), a Distinguished Career Award by ISTH (2017) and holds Distinguished Emeritus membership of the American Society of Hematology.

Dr. Cihan Ay

Dr. Ay studied medicine at the Medical Univeristy of Vienna, Austria and Ruprecht-Karls-University, Heidelberg, Germany. He earned his degree (MD) from the Medical University of Vienna, Austria in 2006 and received there his medical training and completed specialisation in Internal Medicine, Haematology and Medical Oncology. Dr. Ay is currently an associate professor in medicine/haemostaseology at the Medical University of Vienna, Austria, and was a visiting research professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, NC, USA (2016-2017). His research and clinical work focuses on venous thromboembolism (VTE), anticoagulation and bleeding disorders. Having contributed to over 200 peer-reviewed publications, he was particular successful in contributing to a better understanding of the etiology of VTE in cancer by identifying biomarkers and clinical risk factors for cancer-associated VTE. He has been an active peer reviewer for major medical journals in the field including the New England Journal of Medicine, British Medical Journal, Circulation, JACC, Blood, ATVB, Haematologica, Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (JTH), Thrombosis Research and Thrombosis & Haemostasis (T&H), etc. He served as Co-Chair of the Scientific and Standardization Committee (SSC) Subcommittee of the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) on Haemostasis and Malignancy until 2019, and as is an associate editor of Research and Practice in Thrombosis and Haemostasis (RPTH), the open access journal of ISTH. He further serves as board member oft he Austrian, German and Swiss Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis Research (GTH) since 2019. Dr. Ay is a passionate clinician and researcher, supervisor of diploma and PhD-students and maintains regular teaching activities for students and health care professionals to foster education in the field of thrombosis and haemostasis.

Prof. Dr. Katrien Devreese

Professor Katrien Devreese is professor in Hematology/Coagulation at the Ghent University (Belgium) and head of the department of Laboratory Medicine at the Ghent University Hospital. Professor Devreese obtained her Medical Degree at the Ghent University in Belgium followed by Specialization in Clinical Pathology/Hematology, and an Academic degree of Doctor in Medical Sciences (Ph.D.) with the thesis “The laboratory diagnosis of the antiphospholipid syndrome” at the Ghent University. She is chair of the Scientific Standardisation Subcommittee (SSC) on Lupus Anticoagulant/ Antiphospholipid Antibodies of the International Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) (since 2017), following a period as co-chair (2012-2016). She is executive board member and treasurer of the International Society for Laboratory Hematology (ISLH). She was board member, secretary and treasurer of the Belgian Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis from 2008-2019. Her research interests are focused on studies in the diagnostic field of Antiphospholipid Syndrome. She is an author of more than 180 A1 publications in the field of hematology/haemostasis, more than >220 posters/abstract presentations, and is frequently invited as speaker on many national and international congresses.

Dr. Andreas P. Kalogeropoulos

Andreas Kalogeropoulos, MD MPH PhD, is a clinical and outcomes researcher in cardiovascular medicine with expertise in heart failure, echocardiography, and research methodology. He graduated from the University of Patras, Greece (MD, 1994), where he completed his training in internal and cardio¬vascular medicine (2004) and research methodology (PhD, 2012). Dr. Kalogeropoulos trained in echocardiography, heart failure, and outcomes research (MPH, 2013) at Emory University. He has authored over 180 peer-reviewed articles and 3 book chapters. Dr. Kalogeropoulos has received research support from the National Institutes of Health, the American Heart Association, the American Society of Echocardiography, and the Atlanta Clinical and Translational Science Institute for his work on heart failure and echocardiography. He is the current Chair of the Research Committee of the Heart Failure Society of America (2019-2020) and has served on the research committees of the American Society of Echocardiography and the National Cardio¬vascular Data Registry. Dr. Kalogeropoulos has been serving on the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Cardiac Failure and the Journal of American Society of Echocardio¬graphy among other journals. His research focuses on (1) risk factors, outcomes, and clinical prediction models for patients with advanced heart failure, with the goal to optimize management of heart failure patients; (2) risk factors for incident heart failure at the population level, with the goal of primary and secondary prevention of heart failure; and (3) applications of echocardiography for patients with advanced heart failure and congenital heart disease.

Prof. Marie Scully

Professor Marie Scully is a consultant haematologist at UCLH and Professor of haemostasis and thrombosis at UCL. My particular interests include platelet mediated disorders, specifically, ITP, TTP and aHUS and acquired bleeding and thrombotic conditions. Primary publications include TTP, in particular treatment and clinical subtypes, in conjunction with an understanding of the pathogenesis of the underlying disease. I am clinical lead for the national TTP service, UK TTP forum and patron for the TTP Network. I supervise postgraduate doctorates and am involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and regularly reviews for haematology and related medical journals.

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is one of the most common morbidities complicating pregnancy, which is steadily rising in prevalence, with short- and long-term consequences to the mothers and child. Management and treatment aim to achieve the best possible glycemic control, while avoiding hypoglycemia and ensuring maternal and fetal safety. They involve behavioral modifications, nutrition and medications, and specifically insulin, if needed. Oral hypoglycemic agents, such as glyburide (second-generation sulfonylurea) and metformin (biguanide), are attractive alternatives to insulin due to lower cost, ease of administration, and better patient adherence.

With a distinguished panel of Professors, Yariv Yogev, Nir Melamed and Eyal Sheiner, this webinar will address and share new perspectives on the prevention and monitoring of GDM.
