Welcome to this Author Training session, designed specifically for PhD students, early-career academic staff, and mid-career colleagues. This event offers a valuable opportunity to enhance your skills, particularly in the critical area of peer-reviewing for academic journals.

Peer review is a cornerstone of academic publishing, and understanding its nuances not only improves your own research but also strengthens the broader academic community. For many of you, especially those early in your academic journey, this topic will provide valuable insights and practical guidance.

Professor J. Andres Coca-Stefaniak is Professor of Tourism and Sustainability at the University of Greenwich, co-editor of the Routledge Handbook of Tourism Cities (2021), co-editor of the Handbook on Sustainable Urban Tourism (2024) and co-Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Tourism Cities. He has delivered expert evidence to Members of Parliament in the House of Commons and policymakers at the European Commission in Brussels on topics including the vitality and competitiveness of town centres, tourism, and the role of traditional markets in revitalising town centres.

Dr Ana Paula Palacios is a Senior Lecturer in Statistics at the University of Greenwich, fellow of the HEA, founding member of the Science Practice Hub and the UoG lead for the Turing University Network. Her research interests are in the development, application, and dissemination of statistical and machine learning methods. Her research focusses on stochastic processes, Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithms and Bayesian methods. She has participated in various multidisciplinary projects in fields such as biology, language, criminology, and industrial applications.

Bio
Mary obtained her BSc in Genetics in 2019 and her MSc in Molecular Cell Biology with Bio-innovation in 2020 from University College Cork in Ireland. She started her career in MDPI in January 2023 working for the editorial department for the journal Cancers as an Assistant Editor and following this a Section Managing Editor. Currently, Mary is now a Journal Relations Specialist based in the UK office in Manchester.

Rebekah graduated with an MCHEM in Chemistry from Newcastle University. She has worked at MDPI Manchester since 2021 and is currently a Journal Relations Specialist for the MDPI Open Access journals Materials, Alloys and Optics.
