In this online seminar, we focus on advanced motion capture and biomechanical profiling, discussing their practical applications in athletic training and rehabilitation. The session will be chaired by Ana Martins Amaro, who will also provide the introduction and closing remarks.

The first presentation discusses the effect of acute fatigue on aerodynamic drag in elite time trial cyclists.

Prof. Dr. Ana Martins Amaro

Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Coimbra, Portugal;Ana Martins Amaro is an Associate Professor with Habilitation at the University of Coimbra, holding a doctorate and habilitation in Mechanical Engineering, specializing in Structural Integrity. She is an Integrated Researcher at CEMMPRE (Center for Mechanical Engineering, Materials and Processes). She conducts research in Mechanical Engineering and Biomechanics. She has authored over 330 publications. Her research interests include structural mechanics, with an emphasis on Mechanical Engineering and Biomechanics. Her most frequent publications are in the following fields: Mechanical and Biomechanical Modeling and Numerical Simulation; Composite Materials; Biomechanics; Experimental Testing; and Additive Manufacturing. She is a member of the governing bodies of the Portuguese Society of Biomechanics and the Portuguese Society of Fracture and Structural Integrity.

Prof. Dr. Mark de Zee

Department of Health Science and Technology, Aalborg University, Denmark;Mark de Zee is an Associate Professor at Aalborg University in the Department of Health Science and Technology in Denmark. He is a biomechanical engineer specializing in biomechanics, musculoskeletal modeling and sports technology. His main research interest is to develop, validate and apply musculoskeletal models to basic research, clinical problems and sports science. He strongly believes that a combined experimental and computational approach will give the most in-depth knowledge about our complex musculoskeletal system.

Prof. Dr. Beatriz Gomes

Faculty of Sport Sciences and Physical Education, University of Coimbra, Portugal;Beatriz Gomes is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Sport Sciences and Physical Education of the University of Coimbra (FCDEF-UC), Portugal, and an integrated researcher at CIPER—Interdisciplinary Center for the Study of Human Performance. Her research focuses on sports biomechanics, human movement analysis, and the development and application of technologies for sports performance assessment. Her work combines experimental biomechanics with wearable and sensor-based technologies, with particular emphasis on nautical sports, especially canoeing. She coordinates the Integrated Laboratory at FCDEF-UC and has been involved in several research and technology development projects aimed at translating biomechanical assessment into applied sports settings.

Prof. Dr. Maria António Castro

Universidade de Leiria e Oeste, ESSLei, CitechCare, CDRSP, Portugal University of Coimbra, CEMMPRE;Maria António has a habilitation in physiotherapy, a pos-doc in motor behaviour and a PhD in physiotherapy. She graduated in medicine and physiotherapy. She is a full professor at the School of Health Sciences of the University of Leiria and Oeste, Portugal, where she directs the physiotherapy Bachelor’s and Master’s programs. Her research interests include neuromuscular function, movement analysis, biomechanics and motor control of human movements, sports injuries, injury prevention and health promotion. She is also a supervisor of PhD and master’s students, as well as incoming international researchers. She is a guest editor and reviewer in several journals.
