10th Biology Webinar
Autism Spectrum Disorder: From Bench to Molecular Mechanisms

Autism Spectrum Disorder is a complex neurobiological condition that affects approximately 1 in 31 children as of 2026. While traditionally defined by behavioral markers—such as challenges in social communication and restricted, repetitive patterns of behavior—modern research has shifted toward a "biologically anchored" framework that seeks to link these outward traits to their internal molecular origins. Autism Spectrum Disorder: From Bench to Molecular Mechanisms serves as a comprehensive guide to this evolving landscape, bridging the gap between basic laboratory research and the clinical reality of the disorder.

This webinar explores these "points of biological convergence," including:

  • Systemic Interactions: new evidence linking Autism Spectrum Disorder to neuroimmune dysregulation, providing a "brain-body" perspective on the disorder.
  • Translational Advances: the use of stem cells technology to model human development and test personalized therapeutic targets, as well as to provide newest treatment tools and approaches.

This webinar provides young investigators, clinicians and students with the necessary tools to understand Autism Spectrum Disorder not just as a set of symptoms, but as a diverse spectrum of precisely defined molecular mechanisms.

Department of Experimental Medicine, University of Campania, 80138 Naples, Italy;Dr. Dario Siniscalco is biochemist/molecular biologist for the Department of Experimental Medicine, Division of Biotechnology and Molecular Biology of the University of Campania “Vanvitelli”, Italy. He graduated in Chemistry from the University of Naples “Federico II” in 2000 and received his Ph.D. in Pharmacological Sciences from the Second University of Naples in 2004. He completed his neuropathology fellowship at University of Alabama at Birmingham, USA, before joining the Second University of Naples staff in 2006. Dr. Siniscalco is registered member of the scientific societies: Order of the Chemists of Campania, National Council for Chemistry, International Association of Neurorestoratology. He is a co-founder of Stem Cell Research Italy. Author or co-author of 116 scientific peer-reviewed articles and 13 book chapters. His works received more than 3,500 citations so far. Presented more than 100 communications/abstracts to national and international conferences. He is serving as an editorial board member and reviewer of more than 60 international journals. He has also extensive expertises in scientifing writing, editing, proofreading. In 2010, he founded a research group to study cellular and molecular changes in autism spectrum disorders (ASD). His main research interests: gene expression and molecular regulation in ASD; use of stem cells as therapeutic tool in ASD; role of monocyte/macrophage activation in ASD. In 2012, together with prof. Alessio Fasano, he published a first pioneristic work on a macromolecular enzymatic system involvement in ASD. Now, dr. Siniscalco, for the EBRIS foundation, is the Italian principal investigator of the EU Horizon-granted GEMMA (Genome, Environment, Microbiome, Metabolome in Autism) project. Other research interests: stem cells therapy for the neuronal recovery; studying of neuronal apoptosis. Role of bcl-2 family, caspases, and cell cycle regulator genes.
