Welcome from the Chair
It is my great pleasure to host the second webinar of Dermatopathology, which will be on the topic of “Oral leukoplakia: Are they all dysplastic in the molecular age?“ This webinar will be of interest to dermatopathologists and pathologists signing out oral biopsies. We have, as a speaker, the distinguished Prof. Sook-Bin Woo from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. She has been a Professor at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine and Harvard Medical School since 2008. Prof. Woo is the Graduate Program Director for the Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology specialty training program. She has served on the Fellowship Committee and Executive Council of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and on the board of the American Academy of Oral Medicine, where she was President of the Board from 2014 to 2015. She has published numerous scholarly papers, book chapters and a textbook and is reviewer for many journals. She is a much sought-after speaker at many national and international conferences and teaches many courses. Prof. Woo has received the National Research Service Award from the NIH, the American Cancer Society Career Development Award, and the Distinguished Senior Faculty Award from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, among other honors. I would like to thank Prof. Woo for her participation in our second webinar and hope to continue with these webinars in the future, which I am sure will be highly beneficial for the readers of Dermatopathology and members of the European Society of Dermatopathology.

On the 12th of September 2024, we held the second webinar of the journal Dermatopathology, "Oral Leukoplakia: Are They All Dysplastic in the Molecular Age?", with the participation of distinguished speaker Prof. Sook-Bin Woo from Harvard Medical School. The webinar was a great success, with the attendance of 30 participants. I would like to thank the speaker and the attendees for their participation and also the Dermatopathology and MDPI team for organizing this event, and I hope to continue being involved in these webinars in the future.

After obtaining his M.D. degree, Gürkan Kaya pursued his PhD on molecular biology at the University of Geneva and Harvard Medical School, which he completed in 1996. He received his specialist title first in Dermatology in 2002 and then in Dermatopathology in 2003. Since 2011, he has been the Head of the Dermatopathology Unit of the Departments of Dermatology and Clinical Pathology of the University Hospital of Geneva. He has been a Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Geneva since 2014. Other positions he has held include the following: Past President of the Swiss Group of Dermatopathology, Past President of the Organizing Committee of the XXXII Symposium of the International Society of Dermatopathology and the 93rd Annual Meeting of the Swiss Society of Dermatology and Venereology, held in Geneva in 2011, and a past member of the Executive Committee of the International Society of Dermatopathology. Involved in translational research projects, his work focuses mainly on the molecular mechanisms of skin atrophy and the use of novel molecular technologies in the early diagnosis of skin tumors and dermatotoxicopathology. Currently, he is President of the European Society of Dermatopathology, Chairman of the Skin Aging Task Force of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology and an Editor-in-Chief of the journal Dermatopathology.

Oral Leukoplakia: Are They All Dysplastic in the Molecular Age?
Dr. Sook-Bin Woo is Professor of Oral Pathology at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, a Consultant Oral And Maxillofacial Pathologist at the Brigham and Women's Hospital and Boston Children's Hospital, and a Consultant Oral Medicine Specialist at the Brigham and Women's Hospital and Dana Farber Cancer Institute. She is the Director of the Center for Oral Pathology at StrataDx Inc. in Lexington, Massachusetts and Program Director for the advanced oral pathology training program at Harvard. She is board-certified in both oral and maxillofacial pathology and oral medicine and is active in training residents and graduate students in both specialties. She received the Distinguished Senior Faculty Award from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine in 2012 and has published more than 300 papers and book chapters, including a textbook on oral pathology, the third edition of which was published in 2023.
