She was coordinator of Coordinator of Italian Sensor Group, Italian Chemistry Society (2016 -2018). Her teaching activity is in Analytical Chemistry Courses for graduate and under graduate students in Chemistry (2001- at present). Her research is focused on new biosensing principles containing nanomaterials and modified interfaces with nucleic acids, enzymes, antibodies, bacteria, and molecular imprinted polymers. She is an expert in the design of procedures suitable for biosensor devices such as microflow systems, thick-film technology, and nanodispensing technologies. She participated in several national and international projects. She is currently a unit leader in national and international projects.
Benoît PIRO is Professor of Chemistry at Université Paris Cité, France, and conducts his research within the ITODYS laboratory. He obtained his MSc in Chemistry from the Université de Poitiers before joining Université Paris 7 – Denis Diderot in 1995 to pursue a PhD focused on lithium battery technologies. During his doctoral studies, he also developed an innovative active medical device, illustrating an early interest in the intersection between chemistry, electronics, and healthcare applications. Appointed Assistant Professor in 1998, he rapidly established research activities in the field of electrochemical biosensors. His work contributed to the development of sensitive and selective analytical devices targeting a broad range of analytes, including DNA, miRNA, proteins, peptides, antibodies, and organic pollutants. These studies were supported by numerous national and international collaborations and led to several patents, as well as public and industrial research contracts, fostering the transfer of academic research toward practical applications. From 2010 onward, his research progressively expanded beyond conventional electrochemical sensing to encompass organic and bioelectronic devices. His group has notably developed sensing platforms based on organic field-effect transistors (OFETs), electrolyte-gated organic field-effect transistors (EGOFETs), graphene field-effect transistors (GFETs), and organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs). Designed for operation in aqueous environments, these technologies are particularly well suited for applications in healthcare, environmental monitoring, and sustainable sensing. Since 2016, he has also pioneered the integration of printing technologies within his research group, enabling the fabrication of innovative chemical and physical sensors while contributing to the development of low-cost, scalable, and flexible sensing platforms.
