Dear Colleagues,
It is my great honor to welcome you to the 1st International Online Conference on Biomass (IOCBM 2027). As the first global online event dedicated exclusively to biomass research and biorefinery development, IOCBM 2027 delivers a fully virtual format to ensure broad and inclusive participation of researchers, engineers, and industry professionals worldwide. The conference is organized and promoted by the MDPI open access journal Biomass (ISSN: 2673-8783, Impact Factor: 6.1), and will take place online from 9 to 10 December 2027.
Biomass is at the heart of the global transition toward carbon neutrality and a sustainable circular bioeconomy. As a versatile renewable resource, it provides viable alternatives to fossil fuels, chemicals, and materials, addressing critical challenges including climate change, resource security, and industrial decarbonization. This conference offers a premier international forum to showcase the latest advances, address key technical and economic bottlenecks, and foster interdisciplinary collaboration across the entire biomass value chain—from feedstock cultivation and pretreatment to high-value conversion and biorefinery integration.
The conference program reflects the breadth and depth of contemporary biomass research, featuring invited keynote lectures, thematic oral sessions, flash poster presentations, and interactive panel discussions. Core topics are structured into five dedicated sessions:
S1. Sustainable Biomass Feedstocks, Pretreatment, and Characterization
S2. Thermochemical Conversion for Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) and Value-added Products
S3. Biochemical and Microbial Conversion for Value-added Products
S4. Biomass-Derived Materials, Value-added Substances, Chemicals, and Functional Carbons
S5. Biorefinery Integration, Circular Bioeconomy, and Sustainability Systems
Leading experts will share state-of-the-art findings, while interactive live Q&A sessions and dedicated discussion forums will enable in-depth exchange and networking. IOCBM 2027 provides an excellent platform for researchers to present their latest work, engage in direct dialogue with peers, and explore potential joint research opportunities.
Notably, there is no registration fee for all participants, making cutting-edge biomass research accessible to the global research community. To recognize excellent academic contributions, the conference will present awards for Best Oral Presenter and Best Poster.
I invite you to fully engage in the conference discussions, share your innovative findings, and establish new collaborative partnerships. Together, we can advance biomass science and engineering, and accelerate the global transition to a sustainable, bio-based future.
Kind regards,
Prof. Dr. Dimitris P. Makris
