
It is my pleasure to welcome you to our webinar: “Wigner Transform: New Perspectives in Time-Frequency Analysis”. This event will bring together researchers working at the intersection of harmonic analysis, mathematical physics, operator theory, and quantum mechanics to discuss recent developments in the theory and applications of the Wigner transform. The webinar will explore modern approaches to time-frequency analysis, including metaplectic operators, linear canonical transforms, phase-space methods, and quantum harmonic analysis. Particular attention will be given to the role of the Wigner distribution in understanding symplectic transformations and the classical–quantum correspondence. The program will also highlight applications of the metaplectic semigroup to evolution equations with quadratic Hamiltonians, as well as emerging connections between time-frequency analysis and neural networks. Our speakers are Professors Zhichao Zhang, Maurice de Gosson, Elena Cordero, and Dr. Davide Tramontana, whose contributions will offer complementary perspectives on these rapidly developing areas. Department of Informatics, Euler Institute, University of Lugano (Università della Svizzera italiana), Switzerland;Gianluca Giacchi is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Lugano, where he works under the mentoring of Professor Michael Multerer. He graduated in mathematics at the University of Bologna, under the joint supervision of Prof. Nicola Arcozzi and Prof. Elena Cordero in 2025, and in neuroscience at the University of Lausanne, supervised by Prof. Micah Murray and Prof. Benedetta Franceschiello. His expertise span from time-frequency analysis of operators to multiresolution methods for scattered data. At the moment, he has 18 publications in peer reviewed journals, and he is a member of the International Society for Analysis its Applications and Computation (ISAAC).

Department of Mathematics, University of Turin, Italy;Luigi Rodino is a professor of mathematics at the Università di Torino, Italy. After graduating at the University of Torino (1971), he completed his education at the University of Lund and the Mittag-Leffler Institute (Sweden 1973-75), under the supervision of L. Hörmander, and then in the University of Princeton (USA 1975-76) under the supervision of J. J. Kohn. His research activity is addressed to the theory of the pseudo-differential operators and PDE.
School of Mathematics and Statistics, University of Information Science and Technology, China;Zhichao Zhang received the B.S. degree in mathematics and applied mathematics from Gannan Normal University, Ganzhou, Jiangxi, China, in 2012, and the Ph.D. degree in mathematics of uncertainty processing from Sichuan University, Chengdu, Sichuan, China, in 2018. From September 2017 to September 2018, he was a Visiting Student Researcher with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Tandon School of Engineering, New York University, Brooklyn, NY, USA, where he was awarded a grant from China Scholarship Council. Since 2019, he has been with the School of Mathematics and Statistics, Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, Nanjing, Jiangsu, China, where he is currently a Full Professor and a Ph.D. Supervisor. From January 2021 to January 2023, he was a Macau Young Scholars Post-Doctoral Fellow of information and communication engineering with the School of Computer Science and Engineering, Macau University of Science and Technology, Macau, SAR, China. He has published more than 100 journal articles in IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON INFORMATION THEORY, IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON SIGNAL PROCESSING, IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON SIGNAL AND INFORMATION PROCESSING OVER NETWORKS, IEEE SIGNAL PROCESSING LETTERS, IEEE COMMUNICATIONS LETTERS, SIGNAL PROCESSING, and JOURNAL OF FOURIER ANALYSIS AND APPLICATIONS. His current research interests include fractional domain time-frequency analysis, graph signal processing and graph neural network. He was a member of the International Association of Engineers, China Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, Chinese Institute of Electronics, and Beijing Society for Interdisciplinary Science. He was the Vice President of Jiangsu Society for Computational Mathematics and the Director of Jiangsu Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. He was listed among the world’s top 2% scientists recognized by Stanford University from 2021 to 2025.
Faculty of Mathematics (NuHAG), University of Vienna, Austria;Maurice de Gosson is a Professorial Research Fellow at the Faculty of Mathematics of the University of Vienna, Austria, where I have been affiliated since 2006. His research lies at the interface of symplectic geometry and topology, quantum mechanics, quantum harmonic analysis, and time-frequency analysis. Much of my work is devoted to understanding the geometric structure of quantum mechanics through phase-space methods, including quantum blobs, Wigner transforms, and quantum tomography.
Department of Mathematics, University of Bologna, Italy;Davide Tramontana is a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Mathematics of the University of Bologna. His research interests concern problems that originate from the interplay between geometry, physics and mathematical analysis and he is currently involved in several projects in the area of geometric analysis in phase space. More recently, his research has focused on the study of the properties of the Wigner distribution in connection with symplectic transformations in phase space and metaplectic operators, with the aim of investigating the classical–quantum correspondence and related aspects of quantum mechanics.
Department of Mathematics, University of Turin, Italy;Elena Cordero is Full Professor of Mathematical Analysis at the Università degli Studi di Torino. Her research focuses on harmonic and time-frequency analysis, with applications to Schrödinger equations, pseudodifferential and Fourier integral operators, the metaplectic representation of operators and machine learning. She is the author of more than 90 scientific publications and a monograph published by De Gruyter. She has delivered numerous invited and plenary talks at international conferences. She is currently on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Fourier Analysis and Applications and of AIMS Mathematics and she was recently honored with membership in the Accademia delle Scienze of Turin.
