7th Webinar on NDT

A Multiscale Approach Using Geoelectrical Methods: From Laboratory Experiments to Deep Subsurface Investigation

Geoelectrical methods are essential in modern geophysics, providing critical insights into subsurface properties and structures. They can be applied across scales, from controlled laboratory studies to large-scale subsurface exploration, and continuous advances in acquisition, instrumentation, and modeling are further expanding their role in multiscale subsurface characterization.

In this webinar, Prof. Dr. Enzo Rizzo will present a multiscale approach to the application of geoelectrical methods, demonstrating how these techniques can be effectively used from controlled laboratory experiments to the investigation of the deep subsurface. By combining lab measurements, numerical modeling, and field data, the talk explores the key parameters that influence geoelectrical responses. A central focus is placed on how small-scale information can be upscaled and integrated to improve our understanding of large-scale geological processes. Several case studies will be presented, highlighting applications in environmental, hydrogeological, engineering and geothermal contexts from small scale to deep investigation. Emphasis will be given to the integration of geoelectrical data with other geophysical methods to enhance subsurface characterization. Moreover, the various methods of ERT acquisition will be discussed. The talk will spark your interest in the advanced approach of the geoelectric method for underground exploration.
