The human genome contains a huge amount of information. Information variability among human subjects is even greater. We are beginning to grasp this genetic variability and its implications for health, behavior, capacities (physical and intellectual), aging, and responses to different types of interventions. Even if still in its infancy, the development of nutrigenetics and nutrigenomics is already providing concrete examples regarding the interaction of genetics, nutrition, and health outcomes whose translation into clinical and nutritional practice begins to be feasible and advisable. This knowledge – in the form, for instance, of genetic risk scores covering known variability in relevant gene sets, or the identification of single genetic variants or haplotypes that are consistently linked to phenotypic traits or responses to diet – is instrumental to preventive and therapeutic approaches against nutrition-related disease conditions through personalized dietary choices and recommendations. Importantly, at the same time, the novel knowledge generated is helping to advance our understanding of human biology and physiology. As Editor-in-Chief of the Nutrigenetics and Nutrigenomics section of the journal Nutrients, it is my pleasure and my honor to have reunited, in this Webinar, three outstanding, scientists acknowledged worldwide in the field, who will show us relevant examples emerging from their research and the momentum of the area such that we can envisage the possibilities, and limitations, open to us.

On Tuesday 7 September 2021 MDPI and the Journal Nutrients organized their third webinar, entitled "Nutrigenetics: Translation into Clinical and Nutritional Practice".
The introduction was held by the Chair of the webinar, Prof. Dr. María Luisa Bonet, Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Co-Director of the Master in Nutrigenomics and Personalized Nutrition at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB).
The first speaker to kick off this webinar was Prof. Dr. Anne-Marie Minihane from the University of East Anglia, Norwich Medical School, UK. Her presentation was entitled “APOE Genotype, Ageing, Brain Health and the Response to Dietary Change”. Her research investigates the impact of select dietary components and a Mediterranean-style dietary pattern on cardiometabolic and cognitive health. She also investigates nutrient–genotype interactions with a focus on the APOE genotype, establishing the aetiology of genotype–health associations and dietary strategies to mitigate the effects of the ‘at-risk’ APOE4 allele.
The second presentation with the title "Omics Applications in Precision Nutrition" was given by Prof. Dr. Alfredo Martínez, Professor of Food Sciences and Nutrition, Institute of Health Carlos III, Madrid, Spain. His main research interests are in the nutritional control of metabolism; the nutritional utilization of functional foods; the evaluation of nutritional status in different populations; nutrition and immunity; and cell, animal, and human intervention and epidemiological studies in obesity, with a focus on obesity and personalized nutrition, including precision nutritional omics.
Last but not least, the final talk, entitled “Genetic Testing for Personalized Nutrition”, was given by Prof. Dr. Ahmed El-Sohemy from the Department of Nutritional Sciences, University of Toronto, Canada. His research in nutrigenomics and nutrigenetics aims to identify biomarkers of dietary exposure and elucidate the genetic basis for variability in nutrient response and dietary preferences
The presentations were followed by a Q&A and a discussion, moderated by the Chair. The webinar was offered via Zoom and required registration to attend. The full recording can be found here on Sciforum website.
