Non-Thermal Plasma and Its Environmental Applications
Welcome, everyone, to our webinar on "Non-Thermal Plasma and Its Environmental Applications." We gather to explore how this innovative plasma technology is revolutionizing environmental remediation and sustainable agriculture. Non-thermal plasma, through its generation of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species, offers powerful solutions to pressing challenges in water pollution treatment and food security. Our distinguished speakers will share their groundbreaking research on plasma-based degradation of persistent pollutants in wastewater and the enhancement of seed germination and crop productivity through plasma-activated water. Together, we will examine how these chemical-free, eco-friendly technologies are paving the way for cleaner water resources and more sustainable agricultural practices. Thank you for joining us in this important exploration of plasma science for environmental sustainability. Let us embark on this journey towards a cleaner, healthier planet.Date: 16 February 2026

Laboratory of Adsorption and Catalysis (LADCA), Department of Chemistry, University of Antwerp, Belgium
Dr. Prajwal Lamichhane is a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Antwerp specializing in non-thermal plasma technology and its applications in materials science, plasma catalysis, and environmental remediation. His PhD research is from Kwangwoon University, South Korea in which he focused on designing and characterizing plasma sources across key areas: surface modification for engineered material interfaces and pollutant degradation in wastewater treatment. His research spans plasma-material interactions, plasma-liquid interactions, and plasma optical and electrical analysis, with practical applications including wastewater treatment and waste valorization. At Antwerp, his postdoctoral work is part of the FOD Economy-funded T-REX project, investigating plasma-adjusted catalysts for CO₂ conversion in dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) reactors. Using dry reforming of methane (CO₂/CH₄) as a model reaction, he aims to understand how catalyst composition and discharge behavior influence conversion, selectivity, and energy efficiency. Dr. Lamichhane has published over 25 papers on the field of plasma and nanomaterials and serves as guest editor for a special issue on non-thermal plasma at Processes journal.

Plasma for a Cleaner Planet: How Non-Thermal Plasma Technology Is Transforming Water Pollution Treatment
Dr. Vikas Rathore is an Assistant Professor at the Futuristic Science Research Center, Walailak University, Thailand. He earned his Ph.D. in Engineering from the Institute for Plasma Research (Homi Bhabha National Institute, India) in 2023, focusing on plasma-activated water applications in antimicrobial activity and agriculture. He continued this research as a Postdoctoral Fellow at IPR, exploring plasma-activated water as an alternative nitrogen source in hydroponics. His research spans plasma–liquid interactions, plasma medicine, agriculture, food technology, wastewater treatment, and plasma-based fertilizers. He has published over 33 peer-reviewed papers, authored 2 book chapters, holds 2 patents, and transferred 4 innovations to industry. Dr. Rathore has presented at numerous international conferences and received prestigious awards including the U30 Scientist (Mima) Award (AAPPS-DPP 2025) and the J. B. Joshi Research Foundation Innovation Award (2024). He serves as associate editor for 2 journals and has reviewed 180+ articles for 65+ scientific journals.

Plasma for Agriculture: Enhanced Seed Germination and Seedling Growth using Atmospheric Pressure Non-Thermal Plasma Treatment
Dr. Roshan Chalise is a full-time faculty member at St. Xavier's College and part-time Lecturer at Amrit Campus, Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, Nepal. He earned his Ph.D. in experimental plasma physics from the Institute of Science and Technology, Tribhuvan University, in 2024 under Prof. Raju Khanal and Dr. Bhagirath Ghimire (University of Alabama, Huntsville). His thesis, "Enhancing Agricultural Productivity using Cold Atmospheric Pressure Plasma," focused on designing and optimizing plasma reactors for agricultural applications. Despite limited infrastructure, Dr. Chalise established a low-temperature plasma laboratory at the Central Department of Physics, Tribhuvan University, which has attracted students and local industry for collaborative research. He has successfully applied plasma technology in agriculture, microbiology, and material science, publishing his work in esteemed journals.
