Welcome from the Chair
It is with great honor and enthusiasm that we extend an invitation to you for an upcoming webinar in collaboration with MDPI, commemorating the 10th anniversary of Processes. The event, titled "A Decade of Advancing Knowledge and Innovation," celebrates the journal's pivotal role in disseminating breakthroughs in the fields of chemical and biochemical processes.
This engaging webinar will feature three distinguished speakers:
Prof. Dr. Krist V. Gernaey
Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, Technical University of Denmark, Denmark
Presentation: "Sustainability and Digitalization – A Perfect Match for Future Biomanufacturing?"
Prof. Dr. Antony Sanchez
Department of Chemical, Biological and Environmental Engineering, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Spain
Presentation: "Solid-State Fermentation from Organic Waste: A New Generation of Green Bioproducts in Competition with Traditional Chemistry"
Prof. Dr. Valerio Cozzani
Department of Civil, Chemical, Environmental, and Materials Engineering, University of Bologna, Italy
Presentation: "Risk Management and Trade-Off in the Transition to Sustainable Energy Technologies"
We are deeply grateful to these esteemed speakers, experts in the diverse fields covered by Processes, for generously sharing their research during this webinar.
Your presence at this event would greatly enhance the depth of our discussions. We look forward to your participation and the insights you will bring to this significant occasion.

Event Chair
Inorganic Membranes and Membrane Reactors, Sustainable Process Engineering, Department of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry, Eindhoven University of Technology, The Netherlands
Fausto Gallucci studied Chemical Engineering at the University of Calabria (UNICAL, Arcavacata di Rende, Italy) where he obtained his MSc (2001) and PhD (2006) degrees. He performed his PhD research on hydrogen production from methanol in membrane reactors. In 2007, after having held a position as a postdoctoral researcher at the Research Institute on Membrane Technology (ITM-CNR, at the UNICAL campus), Gallucci moved to the research group Fundamentals of Chemical Reaction Engineering at the University of Twente (Enschede, The Netherlands). In 2009 he was appointed Assistant Professor (tenure track) there. The following year, Gallucci moved to the Chemical Process Intensification laboratory at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e, The Netherlands) where he was appointed Associate Professor in 2015, leading the Multiphase Reactors research effort. In 2018 he was appointed full Professor at the chair 'Inorganic Membranes and Membrane Reactors'.
Invited Speakers
Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, Technical University of Denmark, Denmark
Dr. Gernaey has been Professor in industrial fermentation technology ("The Novozymes professor") at the Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering since January 2013. The focus of his work is the modeling, development and optimization of industrial fermentation, biocatalysts, pharmaceutical and food production processes. Central topics in his current work are the application and development of computer-aided tools for the elucidation of (bio)process kinetics, uncertainty and sensitivity analysis methods, data-driven modelling and chemometrics (Process Analytical Technology – PAT), continuous production processes, process monitoring and control applied to bioprocesses, and the investigation of mass transfer issues related to the characterization and development of novel and existing processes and bioreactor types, ranging from microbioreactors to full-scale fermenters.
Department of Chemical, Biological and Environmental Engineering, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Spain
Dr. Antony Sanchez has led the Composting Research Group since the year 2000. He works as a full professor in the Department of Chemical, Biological and Environmental Engineering of the Autonomous University of Barcelona. His research lines cover the main aspects involved in the treatment of organic solid waste through several strategies. Composting, anaerobic digestion and solid-state fermentation are the main lines. He has participated and coordinated several Spanish and European projects on this topic, supervised PhD and Master theses, and authored more than 200 indexed papers as well as book chapters and patents.
Department of Civil, Chemical, Environmental and Materials Engineering, University of Bologna, Italy
Valerio Cozzani received a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pisa, Italy, and is now Professor at the University of Bologna, Italy, where he leads the laboratory of industrial safety and environmental sustainability. His main research interests are in the fields of risk analysis and safety assessment, sustainable design and technology innovation in chemical and energy systems. Specific research topics include the assessment of major accidents involving dangerous substances caused by external hazard factors, cascading events and domino effects; the safety and sustainability assessment of innovative chemical processes; and the safety assessment of alternative fuel systems and synthetic fuel supply chains. Prof. Cozzani chairs the Energy Section of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering, where he also is the Italian Delegate in the EFCE Working Party on Loss Prevention in the Process Industry, and is chair of the ESRA Technical Committee on Chemical and Process Industry.
