23rd Sustainability Webinar
2026 Best Paper Award Ceremony

We are thrilled to invite you to this webinar featuring the authors behind the publications that won the Sustainability Best Paper Award.

The Sustainability Best Paper Award is granted annually to highlight publications of high quality, scientific significance, and extensive influence. Evaluation committee members will choose three research articles and one review of exceptional quality published in the journal the year before last, with the winners announced online by the end of February.

In this session, three of the award-winning authors will present their innovative work, which spans critical topics for our future:

  • Biomass and Biofuels: Opportunities in the Energy Transition

  • Future Projections of Global Plastic Pollution: Scenario Analyses and Policy Implications

  • Digital Product Passport: From Regulation to Advanced Capabilities

Date: 28 April 2026
Time: 14:00 CEST | 8:00 EDT | 8:00 pm CST Asia

Presentation Title: Biomass and Biofuels: Opportunities in the Energy Transition
Bio
She holds a degree in Food Science and Technology and is currently a PhD candidate in Agricultural Technologies and Biotechnology at the University of Molise. Her research PhD project focuses on the use of emerging biomasses in the ecological transition, with particular attention to their characterization and the assessment of environmental impacts compared to traditional and renewable energy sources, within the framework of environmental sustainability and renewable energy technologies. She has also been awarded a research fellowship in collaboration with the National Research Council (CNR), within research activities aimed at promoting studies on environmental issues and energy security.

Presentation Title: Future Projections of Global Plastic Pollution: Scenario Analyses and Policy Implications
Bio
Mateo Cordier completed his PhD in 2011, and since 2012 he has been teaching as an associate professor of ecological economics at Université de Versailles-Saint-Quentin (Université Paris-Saclay). He develops ecological–economic models to simulate environmental management scenarios. He is currently working on the shared environmental responsibility principle. He is also dynamising input–output econometric models coupled to system dynamics models applied to ecological issues related to marine habitats and marine plastic debris.

Presentation Title: Digital Product Passport: From Regulation to Advanced Capabilities
Bio
Foivos Psarommatis is a researcher, systems engineer, and technology entrepreneur with deep expertise in Digital Product Passports (DPP) and Zero Defect Manufacturing (ZDM), focusing on how digital traceability, quality intelligence, and lifecycle data can transform industrial operations into more sustainable, resilient, and circular systems. He serves as Chief Scientist at the University of Oslo and is the Founder and CEO of Zerofect, where he leads the translation of DPP and ZDM from concept to industrial practice. His core strength lies in connecting advanced manufacturing with digital innovation, combining DPP architectures, product and material traceability, semantic/knowledge-based modeling, AI-driven analytics, and decision-support systems to enable measurable improvements in production quality, compliance, and circularity performance. Through Zerofect and the development of the AeonTrace platform, Foivos has been at the forefront of implementing DPP- and ZDM-enabled solutions across complex value chains, helping organizations move from fragmented data and reactive quality control toward integrated, data-driven manufacturing and supply chain management. His work spans research, industrial deployment, and standardization activities, with active contributions to European initiatives shaping the next generation of sustainable manufacturing frameworks. Combining strategic vision with hands-on technical depth, he operates at the intersection of lifecycle traceability, quality engineering, and circular economy innovation, with a clear emphasis on making DPP and ZDM operational, scalable, and industry-ready.
