Innovative Strategies for the Prevention and Control of Animal Infectious Diseases - Immunology, Vaccines, and Beyond
Welcome to the Veterinary Immunology Webinar! It is a pleasure to have everyone here to delve into the fascinating field of veterinary immunity, key to understanding and preventing disease in various species, even humans, under the concept of “One Health”. Today, we will explore the mechanisms of the immune system, which are crucial for both the development of better diagnostic tools and vaccines. This not only protects animal and human health in certain infections, but also contributes to advances in the industrial production of new drugs.
We appreciate the opportunity provided by the team of editors from the MDPI Veterinary Sciences Journal who are joining us in this webinar, to promote that the Special Issue to be published is a success, as reflected by the number of researchers who reflect their results and experiences in relation to immunology.

Laura Noelia Cariddi is PhD in Biological Sciences, an Independent Researcher of CONICET and an Associate Professor in Immunology Orientation at the Universidad Nacional de Río Cuarto. Its main line of research is the study of the immunomodulatory potential of active metabolites obtained from Minthostachys verticillata, an Argentine medicinal plant, for the development of bioproducts applicable in animal health Since 2000, his research has focused on the development of immunomodulatory bioproducts for application in animal health from metabolites of native plants. Together with an interdisciplinary group, they succeeded in increasing the biological potential of bioproducts using nanotechnology. Works closely with other groups of UNRC, UNC, UNICEN, INTA and foreign collaborators (UFRJ and UFFRJ). She has published 43 scientific articles in international journals and 5 book chapters. Throughout his career, he has received numerous awards and distinctions for his contributions in the field of immunology and phytomedicine. Actively participates in the training of human resources, as director and co-director of PhD theses, as well as CONICET scholarships and researchers and as tutor of internships for undergraduate students.

Carlos Angulo was born in the city of La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico. All his studies, from pre-school to graduate, were in institutions in the same city. He is a Zootechnical Engineer, holding a Master of Science in Animal Nutrition and a Doctor of Science in the Use, Management, and Preservation of natural resources. He has conducted research stays at the National School of Veterinary Medicine in Toulouse, France. With the enthusiasm and collaboration of undergraduate and graduate students, administrative, technical and research staff, it has been possible for him to enter level 3 in the National System of Researchers, and to found and maintain the CIBNOR Immunology and Vaccinology Research Group. In 2023, he obtained the technical responsibility of the CONAHCYT National Laboratory for Veterinary Vaccine Generation and Diagnostic Services. In this way and as a group, Carlos has contributed to society by generating knowledge with more than 170 scientific articles, the scientific training of more than 60 undergraduate and graduate students, and the dissemination of science to encourage scientific vocations in Mexican children and youth.

Carolina Veaute holds a PhD in Biological Sciences from the University of Buenos Aires and Biochemistry from the Faculty of Biochemistry and Biological Sciences of the National University of the Littoral (UNL), where she is a full-time Professor in the chairs of Basic Immunology and Tools of Molecular Biology Applied to Clinical Diagnosis. With more than 36 years of academic activity, it combines university teaching with research in the area of immunology and vaccine development. She has led and participated in numerous research projects funded by national and international bodies, focusing on the design and evaluation of immunogens and formulations based on nanoparticles, lipopeptides and liposomes. The results of this work resulted in more than 30 peer-reviewed scientific publications, 11 distinctions and two invention patents related to innovative vaccines against Chlamydia trachomatis and new generation lipopeptides. She conducts doctoral and undergraduate theses, actively contributing to the training of human resources in the field of immunology. She has been a member of scientific committees, academic juries, evaluation commissions and scientific societies. Carolina Veaute has participated in university management activities as a member of academic committees, the Board of Directors and is in charge of the Biochemistry Career Coordination.
