Survey on Symptoms/Signs, Protective Measures, Level of Awareness & Perception Regarding COVID-19 Outbreak Among Dentists

The coronavirus pandemic has deeply affected the world. The COVID-2019 is the third coronavirus emerging in the humans after the SARS-CoV outbreak in 2002 and the MERS-CoV outbreak in 2012. Organizations such as the CDC and WHO have developed preparedness and prevention checklist of 2019-nCoV infection to be used by public and healthcare professionals, but documents for dental health personnel care still partially lacking. The SARS-CoV-2 human-to-human transmission has been described through airborne droplets or through direct contact with cases or with contaminated surfaces. The risk of cross-infection in dentistry is considerably high since splatters and aerosols produced during routine dental treatments contribute to increase the risk. This issue might be a relevant professional hazard when infective agents, such as coronaviruses, are widespread in the population. Dentists and health care professionals working in wards with pneumonia patients, are at higher risk of developing infective diseases during their regular activities. Data on the real risk of virus diffusion by dental procedures is urgent, since none is available in the literature. In this Webinar, will be presented and discusses the study protocol and preliminary results of an online questionnaire survey on symptoms/signs, protective measures, level of awareness and perception regarding COVID-19 outbreak among dentists.
