Tellurium / Lithium Exchange Reaction in the Synthesis of Spiroketals and 1,6-dioxigenated Systems
, , ,
1,4-C,O-dianions, produced through concomitant acid / base and tellurium / lithium exchange reactions were generated. The di-lithium salts were transmetallated with CeCl 3 to the corresponding di-cerium salts and reacted with carbonyl compounds yielding spiroketals. The di-lithium entities were also converted into the corresponding cyanocuprates which add in a 1,4-maner to 2-cyclohexen-1- one giving 1,6-dioxigenated compounds.

Microwave-assisted Reactions of Substituted furo[3,2-b]pyrrole-5-carboxhydrazides and their Biological Activity
, , , ,
The microwave-assisted reactions of substituted furo[3,2-b]pyrrole-5-carboxhydrazides 1 with 5-substituted furan-2-carboxaldehydes 2, thiophene-2-carboxaldehyde 3 and 2-formyl-4-methylfuro[3,2-b]pyrrole-5-carboxylate 4 have been studied under microwave irradiation. Reactions of 1 with 4-substituted 1,3-oxazol-5(4H)-ones 8 led to imidazole derivatives 9. The effects of hydrazones 5-7 on inhibition of photosynthetic electron transport in spinach chloroplasts were investigated.

Rapid microwave-assisted solution phase synthesis of 6, 8-disubstituted- 2-phenyl-3-(substituted-benzothiazole-2-yl) – 4-[3H]-quinazolinone as novel anticonvulsants
,
A fast and highly efficient microwave accelerated solution phase procedure for the synthesis of a series of 2-phenyl-3-(substituted-benzothiazole-2-yl) - 4[3H]-quinazolinone is developed and title compound was characterized by elemental analyses and spectral (IR, 1H NMR and EI-MS) data. The anticonvulsant activity of all the title compounds (3a-m &4a-m) were evaluated against Maximum Electroshock (MES) induced seizures and further more the compounds were evaluated against subcutaneous pentylenetetrazole (PTZ) induced seizures model in mice. The neurotoxicity was assessed using Rotorod procedure. All the test compounds were administered intraperitoneally at a various dose levels ranging from 7-200 mg/Kg body wt and the median toxic dose (TD50) and protection index (PI) values were determined and reported. In general compounds 3a-m were found to be more potent compared to compounds 4a-m. Among the compound tested , the compound 3e in 2-phenyl-3-(substituted-benzothiazole-2-yl) – 4-[3H]-quinazolinones series and compound 4l in 6,8, dibromo 2-phenyl-3-(substituted-benzothiazole-2-yl) – 4-[3H]-quinazolinones series were found to be the most potent.

Microwave assisted oxidation reaction on polyaniline containing heterogeneous catalysts
,
The microwave assisted oxidation of anthracene on heterogeneous catalyst is presented. As the matrix for different heteropolyacids used as a catalyst for oxidation reaction with hydrogen peroxide and its adduct with urea the conducting polyaniline was chosen. All the microwave processes were compared to conventional reaction carried out in the same temperature conditions.

Studies on the base catalyzed synthesis of acetophenone enolcarbamate enhanced by microwaves
, ,
Microwave assisted organic synthesis (MAOS) of N,N-diisopropyl enol carbamate of acetophenone is achieved in good yield when acetophenone, N,N-diisopropylcarbamoyl chloride and Hüning's base, DABCO or TMEDA were irradiated with microwaves. It is remarkable that reaction times are reduced from six days with conventional heating, to twenty minutes.
