The polyphenol/saponin-rich Rhus tripartita extract has an apoptotic effect on THP-1 cells through the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway
Abstract: Hyper-activation of mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathway is involved in the regulation of cellular growth, proliferation, and more in general, is a common phenomenon in most types of cancers. Thus, natural substances targeting this pathway can be of great therapeutic potential in supporting the treatment of tumour patients. Rhus tripartita (Ucria) Grande is a plant generally growing in desert areas and is traditionally used for the treatment of several diseases in Tunisia. Preliminary biochemical analyses of plant leaf extract revealed high levels of polyphenols (in particular flavonoids) and saponins. Therefore, in the present work, the biological activity of a biochemically characterized Rhus tripartita extract on mTOR signaling pathway and the anti-leukemic potential of the plant extracts against acute monocytic leukaemia (AML) THP-1 cells was investigated. In particular, the effect of some flavonoids present in a crude extract of polyphenols and the total extract of saponins on cell survival and apoptosis was evaluated. Analysis of expression level of some genes (PIK3CA, PTEN, AKT1, mTOR, EIF4E, RPS6KB1, and TSC1) involved in the mTOR pathway and the phosphorylation of S6 and AKT proteins indicated how the Rhus tripartita-induced inhibition of cell cycle and induction of apoptosis may involve the mTOR pathway.

Registration
When registering as an "Academic", please register with your academic email address, as this will accelerate the registration process. If you are registering several people under the same registration, please do not use the same email address for each person, but their individual university email addresses. Thank you for understanding.
Participation to the conference is considered final only once the registration fees have been paid. The number of participants is limited: once the number of paid registrations reaches the maximum number of participants, unpaid registrations will be cancelled.
Please note that, in order to finalize the scientific program in due time, at least one registration by any of the authors, denoted as the “Covering Author”, is required to cover the presentation and publication of any accepted abstract. The “Covering Author” registration deadline is 20 December 2023. Your abstract will be withdrawn if your registration is not completed by this date.
Finally, only registered authors will be able to apply for the Conference Awards, and the 10% discount on the publication fees for the Plants Special Issue.
