Introduction: Cardiovascular diseases are highly prevalent and are associated to high-calorie diets and sedentary lifestyles. These factors also contribute to insulin resistance, dyslipidemias, hypertension and diabetes mellitus. The combination of radiofrequency with the vibrating platform or physical exercise may contribute to reduce lipid markers and blood glucose levels.
Objective: To compare the effect of methods performed on female individuals, between 18 and 50 years and with a body mass index greater than 18.5 Kg/m2, during eight sessions of radiofrequency alone, radiofrequency associated with a cycle ergometer and radiofrequency associated with a vibrating platform, and to analyse within the groups the serum levels of total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, triglycerides and glucose.
Methods: Forty female participants, aged between 18 and 50 years and with a body mass index greater than 18.5 kg/m2, were randomly assigned to a control group and three experimental groups (radiofrequency alone, radiofrequency associated with the vibrating platform and radiofrequency associated with the cycle ergometer). Before and after the sessions, whole blood samples were collected to evaluate the biochemical profile. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used for data analysis, with a significance level of 0.05.
Results: There were no statistically significant differences found between the groups for any variable. Between moments, significant differences in triglycerides were observed in the groups submitted to radiofrequency associated with the vibrating platform, radiofrequency associated with the cycle ergometer and in the control group. There were also significant differences in HDL cholesterol in the group submitted to radiofrequency alone and in the group submitted to radiofrequency associated with the cycle ergometer, as well as in glucose in the group submitted to radiofrequency associated with the cycle ergometer.
Conclusion: Radiofrequency associated with physical exercise increases lipolytic activity, with better results compared to radiofrequency alone and radiofrequency associated with the vibrating platform.
