Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) have gained increasing interest in many felds including biorefinery and many others. While some DESs have been widely investigated, new DESs with different compositions and hence different properties and behavior are surfacing from time to time. Our laboratory has long been active in ionic liquids (ILs) and ionic liquid crystals (ILCs) and has for quite some time focused on sulfobetaine zwitterion-based ILs and ILCs. Very recently we have begun to evaluate the potential of various sulfobetaine zwitterions for the fabrication of sulfobetaine zwitterion-based DESs. The presentation will highlight the first datasets on these new DESs. Specifically, we will present the synthesis of the DESs along with their thermal behavior and we will also discuss some first results on carbohydrate dissolution and processing in these new systems. Interestigly, the DESs also appear to be rather good temporary glues; some first data on this behavior will also be shown.
