Abstract

Investor retention has become a critical challenge for wealth management firms operating in increasingly volatile financial markets. During periods of market uncertainty, investors are often exhibit behavioral biases such as loss aversion, anchoring, herding, and panic-driven decision-making, which may lead to irrational investment decisions, portfolio withdrawals, and client attrition. Although existing risk management approaches primarily rely on financial and market-based indicators, they often pay limited attention to the behavioral factors that significantly influence investor decision-making. This limitation highlights the need for an integrated risk management approach that combines behavioral finance with emerging artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to strengthen behavioral risk management and improve investor retention.

This study proposes a conceptual AI-driven behavioral risk management framework for investor retention in wealth management. The framework integrates behavioral finance with AI-driven analytical techniques, including machine learning, Natural Language Processing (NLP), predictive analytics, and quantitative risk analysis, within a unified analytical architecture. It integrates diverse behavioral and financial information to support behavioral risk assessment, drawing on client communication, portfolio engagement, transaction patterns, market volatility, and financial activity. Furthermore, the framework proposes the integration of NLP techniques to identify behavioral signals from client interactions and machine learning approaches to support investor risk profiling, behavioral risk assessment, and intelligent decision-making. In addition, it incorporates an intelligent advisor-support component to facilitate proactive risk identification and behaviorally informed communication strategies for personalized investor engagement.

By integrating behavioral finance with AI-driven analytical techniques, this study addresses an important research gap in behavioral risk management for wealth management. It establishes a structured conceptual foundation for future empirical research and promotes the development of AI-enabled behavioral risk management and intelligent decision-support systems capable of supporting proactive investor retention and advancing next-generation financial risk modeling in wealth management.
