Abstract

Chalcone derivatives have attracted considerable interest in modern chemical research owing to their versatile molecular structures and diverse properties. In the present study, a (E)-1-(thiophen-2-yl)-3-[4-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]prop-2-en-1-on  was synthesized through condensation under basic conditions. The synthesized compound was investigated using UV–Visible, FTIR and NMR spectroscopic techniques to establish its structural features. The spectroscopic studies provide information on the characteristic functional groups, conjugated system and electronic properties of the synthesized compound, supporting the formation of the desired chalcone framework. The incorporation of both a thiophene moiety and a trifluoromethyl-substituted aromatic group provides an interesting structural modification within the chalcone system. The study highlights a simple synthetic approach towards a substituted chalcone and its spectroscopic investigation, providing a foundation for further exploration of its chemical properties and potential applications in biological field and corrosion studies.
