Objective: This study examined the impact of Dacryodes klaineana leaf methanol extract on various metabolic markers in Wistar rats with diabetes induced by alloxan. Study design: For 21 days, groups 3 and 4 of diabetic rats were given oral doses of 200 and 400 mg/kg of D. klaineana leaf methanol extract and 5 mg/kg of glibenclamide (standard group 3). Standard techniques were used to perform biochemical, hematological, and phytochemical assays. Results: From day 7 to day 21, treatment with D. klaineana leaf extract significantly reduced blood glucose levels (p < 0.05), which was similar to the impact of the commonly used drug glibenclamide. Rats treated with different doses of D.klaineana leaf methanol extract showed a substantial (p<0.05) increase in SOD, GSH, PCV, Hb, and RBC levels when compared to the untreated group. Total protein, HbA1c, WBC, MDA, AST, ALT, total bilirubin, urea, and uric acid concentrations were significantly (p<0.05) lower in the groups treated with different dosages of D. klaineana leaf methanol extract than in the untreated group. Conclusion: The results lend credence to D. klaineana leaf's potential as a natural remedy for diabetes.
