Dear Colleagues,

It is our pleasure to invite you to join the 2nd International Electronic Conference on Applied Sciences (ASEC 2021) that is hosted online by https://sciforum.net/conference/ASEC2021.

Two decades have passed since the first year of the 21st century. The speed of the development of sciences and technologies are growing ever faster today than in the previous century. The field of science is expanding, and the structure of science is becoming ever richer. Because of this expansion and fine structure growth, researchers may lose themselves in the deep forest of the ever-increasing frontiers and sub-fields being created. This open-access journal, Applied Sciences, was started to help all scientists conduct their own research into the growth of these frontiers by breaking down barriers and connecting the many sub-fields in order to cut through this vast forest. These functions will allow researchers to see these frontiers and their surrounding (or quite distant) fields and sub-fields, and give them the opportunity to incubate and develop their knowledge even further with the aid of this multi-dimensional network.

ASEC 2021 aims to promote and advance the exciting and rapidly changing field of all aspects of applied sciences. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

ASEC 2021 will enable you to share and discuss your most recent research findings with the worldwide vibrant community of scientists and engineers in the field.

ASEC 2021 will make your presentation accessible to hundreds of researchers worldwide, with the active engagement of the audience in question and answer sessions and discussion groups that will take place online.

Submitted abstracts will be reviewed by the conference committee. The authors of accepted contributions will be invited to produce an extended abstract for the conference proceedings along with a slide presentation of their work. Following the conference, outstanding contributions will be invited to be submitted for publication in Applied Sciences (https://www.mdpi.com/journal/applsci).

ASEC-2 is a new and exciting experience for me that I believe that it is a taste of the future. ASEC-2 will revolutionize dissemination in the field with a brand-new tool for sharing research in an online environment that will preserve the same standards and structure of traditional conferences but will be more inclusive by breaking the cost and time barriers that prevent participation in remote events.

The 2nd International Electronic Conference on Applied Sciences (ASEC 2021) will be held on 10–30 November 2021. ASEC 2021 aims to promote and advance the exciting and rapidly changing field of applied sciences. All proceedings will be held online at https://sciforum.net/conference/ASEC2021.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

ASEC 2021 is a virtual conference sponsored by Applied Sciences. Participation is free of charge for authors and attendees. Accepted papers will be gathered in the proceedings of the conference. He is presently working as a Lifetime Chair Professor of Department of Electro-Physics and a Director of the Ultrafast Laser Research Center in at National Chiao-Tung University, Taiwan and working as a specially appointed professor of the University of Electro-Communications, Japan. He had received his Ph.D. in Faculty of Science from the University of Tokyo, Japan. He has membership in reputational societies. He is the recipient of number of honors for his scientific achievements. He also has a number of publications in the fields of Ultrashort pule lasers, Ultrafast spectroscopy, Super-resolution microscopy, and Nanoscience.

Nunzio Cennamo was born in Italy in 1975. He is Professor of Electronics at University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli (Naples) Italy. His research interests include the design and fabrication of optical fiber sensors, chemical sensors, biosensors and optoelectronic devices. He is author of more than 110 international journal and conference papers and 7 patents. He is an invited speaker in several international conferences. He is Associate Editor of “Photonics Research” (OSA) and of “Applied Sciences“ (MDPI). He is an Organizer and General Chair of the 7th International Symposium on Sensor Science (I3S 2019), 9-11 May 2019, Naples (Italy).

Professor Saulius Juodkazis has physics and material science training. His cotutelle PhD was obtained in 1998 from Vilnius Univ., Lithuania and Lyon-I Univ., France. His current interests are in the fields of light-matter interactions occurring in small space (nanoscale) and time (femtoseconds) domains. He planned, established and directs a multi-user 3D Nanotechnology facility at Swinburne Univ. Technol., Melbourne, Australia, which was open to users in 2011. He is SPIE and OSA Fellow.

Sam Adeloju is a Professor of Chemistry and Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Science at Charles Sturt University, Albury (NSW), Australia and Editor-in-Chief of the Chemistry Section of the Applied Sciences Journal (MDPI). He has made original and innovative contributions to the design, fabrication, and characterization of conducting polymers, biosensors, nanobiosensors, nanomaterials and microbial fuel cells. Sam’s research activities is focused on the development and utilization of advances in bioanalytical and biological chemistry coupled with nanotechnology for fabrication of novel advanced nanodevices and nanoanalytical systems, including nanobiosensors, medical diagnostics and microbial fuel cells. In particular, he has made significant contributions to the development of biosensors and nanobiosensors for clinical, environmental and food analyses, as well as in the development of microbial fuel cells (MFCs) for power generation from wastewaters. He has published extensively in international journals, books and proceedings. He was awarded the Royal Australia Chemical Institute (RACI) awards for Applied Research Medal (2009), R.H. Stokes Medal for Electrochemistry (2011), Doreen Clark Medal for Analytical Chemistry (2013) and Citation Award for Excellence in Leadership and Service (2017). Sam is also an Associate Editor for Frontiers in Sensors (Chemical Sensors), member of the International Advisory Board for Sci Journal (MDPI), member of the Editorial Board for Biosensors (MDPI), and other international journals. He has been appointed on several occasions as a visiting professor of chemistry in Sweden, UK, Tasmania, China, and Malaysia.

Dr. Roger Narayan is a Professor in the Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of North Carolina and North Carolina State University. He is an author of over two hundred publications as well as several book chapters on processing of biomedical materials. He has previously served as director of the TMS Functional Materials Division and the ASM International Emerging Technologies Awareness Committee; he currently serves as chair of the American Ceramic Society Bioceramics Division. Dr. Narayan has received several honors for his research activities, including the NCSU Alcoa Foundation Engineering Research Achievement Award, the University of North Carolina Jefferson-Pilot Fellowship in Academic Medicine, the National Science Faculty Early Career Development Award, the Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Award, and the American Ceramic Society Richard M. Fulrath Award. He has been elected as Fellow of AAAS, ASM International, AIMBE, and American Ceramic Society.

Dr. Dibyendu ‘Dibs’ Sarkar is the Editor-in-Chief of the Environmental and Sustainable Technology Section of Applied Sciences, an open access journal published by MDPI, and Professor of Environmental Engineering in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Ocean Engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology in New Jersey, USA. He received his PhD in Environmental Geochemistry at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 1997. Dr. Sarkar’s research interests are in soil and water chemistry, environmental quality and remediation, human health and ecological risk assessment, and green technology development. He is a Fellow of the Geological Society of America and Soil Science Society of America and has authored 3 books and more than 130 journal articles in leading international journals.

He had been Visiting Assistant Professor and Adjunct Scientist at the Department of Operative Dentistry and Periodontology at University of Regensburg (Germany). He was associate researcher at Interdisciplinary Research Centre on Biomaterials (CRIB) - University of Naples “Federico II” and he completed the three-year postgraduate program in Oral Surgery at the same University. He has served as Professor of Operative Dentistry at Sechenov University (Russia). Now he is Professor at School of Dentistry - University of Naples “Federico II” spending his time teaching and participating in the faculty practice in Endodontic, Operative Dentistry and Oral Surgery sections. Prof. Dr. Spagnuolo research is focused on the interaction between cell-tissue-materials at molecular and clinical levels.

Prof. Berto has considerable experience in mechanical metallurgy, materials science (metals), fatigue of metals, fracture and mechanical testing related to steels, aluminum alloys, hardmetals, ceramics and polymers, together with a good metallurgical knowledge of their microstructures and properties. He has significant expertise in fatigue design for machine components and welded structures (plus welding processes and metallurgy), fatigue life prediction, engineering defect assessment, failure analysis, stress analysis, fractography, and materials selection. He has been involved in numerous projects funded both by the University of Padova , by the Italian Ministry of University and Research and by private companies. He is partecipating as main investigator to several EU pojects and all together in his career he was able to attract huge funding for research activities. Main ongoing projects are related to industrial collaborations with Cimolai, Zincherie Valbrenta, Omera, Officine Meccaniche Zanetti, Rolls Royce, Sintef, Nexans and many others.

(2004) and Ph.D. (2007) is an Associate Professor (with Habilitation) in the Department of Computer Science, University of Beira Interior and has been researching mainly about biometrics and visual-surveillance. He was the coordinating editor of the IEEE Biometrics Council Newsletter and the area editor (ocular biometrics) of the IEEE Biometrics Compendium Journal. Bettina Wolf is Professor of Microstructure Engineering in the School of Chemical Engineering. Fotis is a part of the Food Formulation Engineering Research group. By developing new formulation engineering methods and techniques, the team is creating cutting-edge and novel approaches to food processing and the development of healthier, higher performance products. She has previously held a research position as a Rheologist with a consumer goods multinational, and an academic post in Food Sciences, at the University of Nottingham. Bettina has published over 50 research papers in scientific journals and book chapters in the fields of emulsion science and processing, highly filled suspension systems, rheology and oral processing. Her research is often interdisciplinary and has been funded by industry and the Research Councils. In addition to food systems, her expertise includes personal care products. Bettina is a co-inventor on 5 patents. She is enthusiastic about spreading the word about science and has given talks on chocolate as her favourite research material to various groups. Bettina is also a member of journal editing boards and the Executive Council of the European Society of Rheology.

Alessandra Durazzo was awarded a Master’s degree in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology cum laude in 2003, a PhD in Horticulture in 2010. Since 2005, Researcher at the CREA-Research Centre for Food and Nutrition. The core of her research is the study of chemical, nutritional and bioactive components of food, with particular regard to the wide spectrum of substances classes and their nutraceutical features. For several years, she was involved in national and international research projects on evaluation of several factors (agronomic practices, processing, etc.) that affect food quality, the levels of bioactive molecules and the total antioxidant properties, as well as on their possible impact on the biological role played by bioactive components in human physiology. Her research activities are addressed also towards the development, management and updating of Bioactive Compounds, Nutraceuticals and Dietary Supplements databases; particular attention was given towards the harmonization of analytical procedures and classification and codification of food supplements.

He got a master Degree in Industrial Chemistry "cum laude" of the University of Rome "La Sapienza", Italy (1992) and a PhD in Chemistry (University of Rome "La Sapienza"). He works as researcher, at CREA – the Council for Agricultural Research and Agricultural Economics Analysis, the leading Italian research organization on agri-food., with 12 research centres, more than 1500 reserchers and technologists, and with 500 ongoing research projects and 66 experimental fields. The research activity is mainly aimed at the evaluation of nutrient content, molecules with biological and anti-nutrient activity in foods and diets, studies of stability to technological treatments of food products using specific process markers. Particular interest is addressed to the evaluation of the nutritional quality of foods, the bioavailability of nutrients and bioactive components and their interaction with the food matrix (using in vitro models and cellular models), and to applications in the nutraceutical field; recent attention in the exploitation of waste from the agri-food industry, with a view to sustainable agri-food production. In relation to the study of bioactive molecules, the experience gained in this field is wide ranging from carotenoids to phenolic substances, from caseinophosphopeptides (CPP) to the components of dietary fiber. An integral part of the research carried out is linked to institutional activity, including: Food Composition Tables, Guidelines for Healthy Nutrition, evaluation of fraud risk in the agri-food system. In relation to the production system, the effects of technological treatments on molecules of nutritional interest are also evaluated. He is also interested in using natural substances with strong antioxidant properties to improve the shelf-life of food products. The research activity is also aimed at the development of new analytical methods, the exchange of scientific information and the acquisition of new skills both at national and international level, through training courses, participation in congresses and seminars. Muzio M. Gola, mechanical engineer, is Professor Emeritus of Machine Design at the Polytechnic of Turin, where he was also Department Director, Vice Rector for Quality, Head of the Doctoral School in Mechanical Engineering, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. (https://www.dimeas.polito.it/personale/scheda/(nominativo)/muzio.gola) He is a specialist in stress analysis, strength and criteria of machines, mechanics of machines and structures and vibrations. He is the author of over 250 scientific publications since 1972, 134 of which are listed in Scopus (Scopus Author ID: 7006108085). ORCID ID orcid.org/0000-0002-7279-4722. His teaching commitments have been mainly in Machine Design, for Mech. Eng. , Aerospace Eng. and Chemical Eng. He was the founder and the long-time leader of the AER-MEC Laboratory & Research Group (turbine and compressor components) of POLITO-DIMEAS (Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering). This Lab is a success story, operating from about 25 years, still expanding thanks to the former co-workers. It has a wide range of experimental equipment to which it combines numerical capabilities, focusing on four main lines: contact mechanics & tribology, friction damping, joints mechanics, vibration & mistuning in turbomachinery. In parallel, he has established himself as a specialist in Quality Assurance and HE accreditation. In this line, Prof. Gola represented POLITO in several academic international projects focused on quality assurance, to which he contributed with his expertise. Appointed expert by the CNVSU (a ministerial body) already around 2000, from 2012 expert at ANVUR, the new national agency for the accreditation of the university system. Member or president of several Evaluation Boards of Italian universities from about 2000. He was an international evaluator for OAQ and EKKA. QUACING-EURACE "Steering Committee" member. He contributed 34 articles, 6 official reports, several courses.

Rubén Usamentiaga Fernández received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in computer science from the University of Oviedo, Gijon, Spain, in 1999 and 2005, respectively.,He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, University of Oviedo. In recent years, he has been working on several projects related to computer vision and industrial systems. His research interests include real-time imaging systems and thermographic observers for industrial processes.

Armando Jorge Miranda de Sousa received his PhD in 2004, in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at University of Porto - Faculty of Engineering (FEUP). His thesis work was in the subarea of Robotics and Automation. He is currently an Auxiliary Professor in the ECE department of FEUP and an integrated researcher at Centre for Intelligent and Industrial Systems (CRIIS) at the INESC TEC interface institute. He earned in 2014 the international pedagogical certification "ING.PAED.IGIP" from the International Society for Engineering Pedagogy. His main research areas include Automation, Robotics and Higher Education. As a frequent participant in robotic contests, he has earned several national and international merits (examples: vice champion of RoboCup Robotic Soccer in 2006, winner of Autonomous Driving of Portuguese Robotics Open of 2019). He has also earned educational awards such as the University of Porto (UP) excellence award in 2015 and 10 best at ECEL 2015 excellence e-learning awards. He has published over 80 indexed peer reviewed articles both in pedagogical issues and more technical areas. Samuel Morillas was born in Granada, Spain, in 1979. He received the M.Sc. degree in computer science from the Universidad de Granada in 2002 and the Ph.D. degree from the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, Spain, in 2007. He is an Full Professor of the Department of Applied Mathematics at Universidad Politécnica de Valencia. He is a member of the Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics at UPV. His research interests include fuzzy metrics, fuzzy sets, nonlinear color image and video processing, colorimetry and vision science.

Marco Mesiti is associate professor at the Department of Computer Science of the University of Milan, Italy. He received Laurea degree and PhD in Computer Science at the University of Genova, Italy. He has been visiting researcher at the applied research center of Telcordia Technologies, Morristown, New Jersey. He is member of the Anacleto Lab., a research group focused on the application of Artificial Intelligence methods to Molecular Biology and Medicine. His specific interest is in the application of data management and data visualization techniques for efficiently integrating, exploring, processing and analyzing big heterogenous, graph structured, biological data. He has over 100 publications in scientific journals and conferences in the context of data management and bioinformatics which have been cited over 2,000 times. He is associate editor of Applied Sciences and Data Science and Engineering (DSE) journals.

Professor Alessandro Di Nuovo is Professor of Machine Intelligence at Sheffield Hallam University. He received the Laurea (MSc Eng) and the PhD in Informatics Engineering from the University of Catania, Italy, in 2005 and 2009, respectively. Currently, Prof. Di Nuovo is the leader of Technological and Digital Innovation for promoting independent lives at the Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre, which is dedicated to improving the wellbeing across the population through innovations that support a healthier lifestyle. He is also the leader of the Smart Interactive Technologies research laboratory of the Department of Computing. He is a member of the Executive Group of Sheffield Robotics, an internationally recognised initiative of two Sheffield Universities to support innovative and responsible research in robotics. Prof. Di Nuovo has an extensive track record as Principal Investigator of externally funded interdisciplinary research, worth over £4m, in fundamental and applied topics of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics. Prof. Di Nuovo’s scientific contributions focus on artificial intelligence and robotics applications, with over 100 peer-reviewed publications in well reputed venues, including the prestigious Nature Machine Intelligence in 2019. His work received several awards including the 2018 Silver Best Application Paper Award from the IFToMM (International Federation for the Promotion of Mechanism and Machine Science) and the 2014 Best Paper Award from the AISC (Italian Association for Cognitive Sciences). Prof. Di Nuovo serves as Topic Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Advanced Robotic Systems (Sage). He is an associate editor of Applied Sciences and Robotics journals (MDPI). Aleksander Mendyk graduated in pharmaceutics at the Faculty of Pharmacy Jagiellonian University, Medical College (JUMC) in Cracow. He started his work as an assistant at the Dept. of Pharmaceutical Technology and Biopharmaceutics JUMC, where he works till now as associate professor. He got his PhD in pharmaceutics at the same Dept. of Pharmaceutical Technology and Biopharmaceutics JUMC, His scientific interests concern application of artificial intelligence in pharmaceutics and biopharmaceutics for non-linear and multivariate modeling of complex systems. Apart from his academic career he worked in a community pharmacy and still works as a scientific consultant for several pharmaceutical companies. He served also as director for PK/PD, bioequivalence and IVIVC in ThothPro(TM) IT/ICT company. He is also member of Editorial Advisory Board for Dissolution Technologies journal. Aleksander Mendyk authored or co-authored over 100 publications, 6 chapters in the books and over 100 conference presentations. He is also developer of open source software shared for public use.

Anuj K. Sharma received the M.Sc. degree from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, India, in 2001 and the Ph.D. degree from IIT Delhi, India, in 2006, both in Physics. Post-Ph.D., he was awarded the Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship to work at Friedrich-Schiller University, Jena (Germany) during 2007–2008. During July 2008–May 2010, he worked at ASML Netherlands B.V., Veldhoven, The Netherlands, as a Technical Analyst (Semiconductor Lithography). He is currently an Assistant Professor of Physics with the National Institute of Technology Delhi, India. His current research areas include Plasmonics in thin films and gratings, optical sensors, fiber optics, nanophotonics, photonic device modelling, and technology management. He has authored or co-authored over 90 research papers in different reputed international journals published by Elsevier, IEEE, OSA, AIP, IOP, SPIE, Springer, etc. He is the Principal Investigator of a CSIR (India)-sponsored research project on “Plasmonic devices based on metallic nanostructures.” and SERB (India)-sponsored Core Research project on "Role of spin waves and magnonics in plasmonics-based photonic devices". He has authored/co-authored three chapters in a couple of books published by Springer (Fiber Optic Sensors: Current Status and Future Possibilities, 2017) and Elsevier (Handbook of Nanomaterials, 2021). He has reviewed/adjudicated more than 100 research articles for different international journals. He is an Associate Editor of Optical Fiber Technology (since February 2019) and of IEEE Sensors journal (since April 2019). Pietro Falco received the Research Doctorate degree in Electronic Engineering in 2012 and until February 2015 he held a Post-Doc position at Second University of Naples. From December 2010 to July 2011 he was a Visiting Scholar at Karlsruher Institute of Technology (KIT) in Karlsruhe, under the supervision of Prof. Dillmann. He participated in several European projects concerning mobile manipulation in unstructured environments such as DEXMART, ECHORD, SAPHARI, EUROC. In 2011, he co-founded the company Aeromechs s.r.l., still very active in research and development of energy management systems for more electric aircrafts. In order to work full time on research, Pietro left the active co-leadership of the company and moved to Munich. In March 2015, he was appointed "TUM Foundation Fellow" at Technical University of Munich and in February he earned a Marie Curie Individual Fellowship for Experienced Researchers with the project proposal LEACON “LEArning-CONtrol tight interaction: a novel approach to robust execution of mobile manipulation tasks". Pietro joined ABB Corporate Research in 2018 as senior scientist and project manager, driving and participating in both internal and European research projects on service robotics for logistics and healthcare. Andrea Cusano received his Laurea degree cum Laude in Electronic Engineering on November 27, 1998 from University of Naples “Federico II”, Italy. In 2003 he defended his PhD thesis carried out at the Department of Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering of University of Naples with tutor Prof. Antonello Cutolo. His Ph.D. thesis was focused on “Optoelectronic Sensors for Smart Materials and Structures”. On February 2002, during his Ph.D. student course, he was engaged as Research Fellow at the Department of Engineering at University of Sannio to support Prof. Antonello Cutolo to build up the Optoelectronic Division. Since September 2002 and up to now, he has been also in charge as Professor for several courses of Electronics at the Engineering Department of University of Sannio. On December 30, 2002, he started his service as permanent researcher at the University of Sannio. On December 15, 2005 he won a national competition as Associate Professor at the University of Sannio. His research interests are focused on the suitable merging of optical fibers and nanotechnologies and was the pioneer of the “Lab on fiber Technology” concept, nowadays recognized as an hot topic in nanophotonics. He was also cofounder of several spin-off companies focused on the development of fiber optic sensing systems for industrial and life science applications: “OptoSmart S.r.l.” in 2005, “MDTech” in 2007, “OptoAdvance” in 2011, Mantid S.r.l. in 2017, Often Medical in 2019. He published over 400 papers on prestigious international journals and communications in well-known international conferences worldwide; he has close to 20 national and international patents currently in charge of prestigious industrial companies (Ansaldo STS, Alenia WASS, Optosmart, MdTEch, Often Medical). Contaminated gases within Ultra-Clean Operating Theaters during laparoscopic surgeries: how the SARS-COV2 pandemic changed our point of view.

I spent the last 11 months in the middle of a pandemic creating a team of young surgeons and running a General Surgery Unit in an italian spoke hospital (Valtiberina - Sansepolcro); struggling as all of you, HCWs and not. A brand new role for me started on january 1st 2021: I'm officially in charge as the leader of a group of nurses, certified nurse assistants, janitors and surgeons, all focused on giving our patients the best health care. We offer open and mini-invasive surgery (biliary, abdominal wall, gynaecologic, endocrine, colorectal, UGI). My personal clinical interests include colorectal cancer, enhanced recovery after surgery (including immunonutrition), abdominal wall reconstruction (from multidisciplinary treatment of sporthernia to endoscopic component separation), surgical site infection control/reduction/surveillance. We run a training lab for laparoscopic surgery studying eye-hand coordination, ambidexterity and learning curve, focusing on developing specific pathway to improve young surgeons’ hard skills.

Professor Saulius Juodkazis has physics and material science training. His cotutelle PhD was obtained in 1998 from Vilnius Univ., Lithuania and Lyon-I Univ., France. His current interests are in the fields of light-matter interactions occurring in small space (nanoscale) and time (femtoseconds) domains. He planned, established and directs a multi-user 3D Nanotechnology facility at Swinburne Univ. Technol., Melbourne, Australia, which was open to users in 2011. He is SPIE and OSA Fellow.

Soon Hock is a research fellow at Swinburne University of Technology. He completed his BSc and BEng at Monash University, where he also completed his PhD in 2016, with a focus on lithography and the self-assembly of nanoparticles. He began working at the Melbourne Centre for Nanofabrication as a Process Engineer in the latter half of 2016 before perusing postdoctoral research in the Centre for Micro-Photonics at Swinburne University of Technology in early 2017. His research areas include: self-assembly of nanoparticles in lithographically defined templates, PVD and RIE of nanostructured thin films, energetic materials, spectroscopy, and recently, remote sensing methods.

Dr. Vijayakumar Anand is a Nanophotonics Research Fellow at the Optical Sciences Center, Swinburne University of Technology. He completed his Bachelor and Master degrees in Physics from The American College, India in 2004 and 2007 respectively. He completed his second Master degree in Laser Technology from College of Engineering, Anna University in 2009 and Ph.D from Indian Institute of Technology Madras in 2015. He was a PBC outstanding postdoctoral researcher at Ben Gurion University Israel from 2015-2018 and Monbukagakusho Researcher at Osaka University, Japan from 2010 to 2012. He is one of the recipients of JSPS fellowship in 2020. He has published more than 45 journal articles and 32 conference proceedings articles, a best-selling tutorial text book on Diffractive Optics, two book chapters and two patents. He has received the RAITH Micrograph Award for the year 2021, outstanding reviewer award from Optical Society of America in 2019. He has served as a co-guest editor of a special issue on holography for Applied Sciences journal. He is currently serving as co-guest editor for special issues on holography for Journal of Imaging and Applied Physics B.

The Use of Non-Thermal Treatment as Pulsed Electric Field and Ultrasound in Food Technology
Bio
Dr. Małgorzata Nowacka is an associate professor at the Institute of Food Sciences at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences. She is a specialist in the field of food drying, the application of non-thermal food processing methods, food storage and safety, and packaging. Her scientific and research interests focus mainly on engineering issues in food technology, especially the physical properties of raw materials and mainly plant products. In recent years, together with his team, he has been conducting research on the use of unconventional, innovative techniques (pulsed electric field, ultrasound) as preliminary treatments and supporting heat and mass transfer processes. Additionally, her research interests include packaging intended for contact with food, designing new products and their safety. Since 2019, she has been a member of the Polish Young Academy of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

ASEC 2021 Live Sessions Information

During the duration of the conference, a number of live online sessions will be programmed. The live streaming platform we are using is Zoom. During each session, the participants will have the possibility to ask questions during a Q&A session. Detailed information about the topics and dates will be shared soon.
The live sessions are free for authors. The authors who submit submissions to ASEC 2021 will have priority for the registration (with no extra cost) to the live online sessions with our keynote speakers. If it is not completely full, the registration will be opened for unregistered participants. Registrations with academic institutional email addresses will be prioritized.

The number of participants to the live session is limited but the recording will be made available on Sciforum shortly afterwards.

Instructions for Authors

Submission Information

Submissions should be submitted by the authors online by registering at https://sciforum.net/conference/ASEC2021, and using the “Submit Abstract” function once logged into system.

  1. Scholars interested in participating with the conference can submit their abstract (about 200–250 words covering the areas of manuscripts for the proceedings issue) online at this website up to 9 August2021.
  2. The Conference Committee will conduct a pre-evaluation, based on the submitted abstract, of whether the contribution from the authors of the abstract will be welcome for the 2nd International Electronic Conference on Applied Sciences. All authors will be notified by 30 August 2021 about the acceptance of their abstract.
  3. If the abstract is accepted for this conference, the author is asked to submit the manuscript, optionally along with a poster, a slides presentation (in PDF) and/or a short video presentation (max. 3-5 minutes) as supporting material of the paper, until the submission deadline of 13 September 2021.
  4. The manuscripts and presentations will be available on https://sciforum.net/conference/ASEC2021 for discussion and rating during the time of the conference, from 15–31 October 2021.
  5. The accepted proceedings papers will probably be published as one dedicated volume in MDPI Engineering Proceedings journal (ISSN 2673-4591). Publication of proceedings paper is free of charge. Note: Before publication, Engineering Proceedings journal will review accepted papers using the powerful text comparison tool: iThenticate. This procedure aims to prevent scholarly and professional plagiarism.
    Articles with a high repetition rate and lack of novelty will not be published in the conference proceedings.
  6. The open access journal Applied Sciences will publish a Special Issue (https://www.mdpi.com/journal/applsci/special_issues/2nd_IECAS) of the conference and accepted papers will be published in the proceedings of the conference itself. After the conference, the Conference Committee will select manuscripts that may be included for publication in the Special Issue of the journal Applied Sciences (the submission to the journal is independent from the conference proceedings and will follow the usual process of the journal, including peer-review, APC, etc.).
Proceedings Paper

Proceedings papers must be prepared in MS Word using the Proceedings template (see below) and should be converted to PDF format before submission. The manuscript should count at least 3 pages (incl. figures, tables and references) and should not exceed 6 pages. Carefully read the rules outlined in the 'Instructions for Authors' on the journal website and ensure that your manuscript submission adheres to these guidelines.

Manuscripts for the proceedings issue must have the following organization:

Authors are encouraged to prepare a presentation in PowerPoint or similar software, to be displayed online along with the Manuscript. Slides, if available, will be displayed directly in the website using Sciforum.net's proprietary slides viewer. Slides can be prepared in exactly the same way as for any traditional conference where research results can be presented. Slides should be converted to the PDF format before submission so that our process can easily and automatically convert them for online displaying.

Video Presentations

Authors are also encouraged to submit video presentations. This is an unique way of presenting your paper and discussing it with peers from all over the world. Video should be no longer than 3-5 minutes and prepared with one of the following formats: .mp4 / .webm / .ogg (max size: 250Mb). It should be submitted with the full manuscript before 13 September 2021.

  • MS Word: Manuscript prepared in MS Word must be converted into a single file before submission. Please do not insert any graphics (schemes, figures, etc.) into a movable frame which can superimpose the text and make layout very difficult.
  • LaTeX: Manuscripts prepared in LaTeX must be collated into one ZIP folder (include all source files and images so that the Conference Secretariat can recompile the submitted PDF). When preparing manuscripts in LaTeX, please use the 1st International Electronic Conference on Applied Sciences LaTeX template files.

Posters

Posters will be available on this conference website during and after the event. Like papers presented on the conference, participants will be able to ask questions and make comments about the posters. Posters can be presented without an accompanying proceedings paper. However, they will not be added to the proceedings of the conference.
