Welcome from the Chairs

Dear Colleagues,

It is our pleasure to invite you to join the 2nd International Electronic Conference on Biosensors (IECB) that will be hosted online at Sciforum from 14 to 18 February 2022.

Biosensors have currently a very wide range of applications, due to their simplicity, low cost and precision, that aim at improving the quality of life. This range covers their use for environmental monitoring, disease detection, food safety, defense, drug discovery and many more.

The scope of this online conference is to get together well-known experts worldwide who are currently working in biosensors and to provide an online forum for sharing and exchanging knowledge.

Particular attention will be given to young scientists approaching the world of biosensors by dedicating a conference session to them.

Throughout this event, we aim to cover topics including, but not limited to:

  • Technologies for Innovative Biosensors
  • Implantable and Wearable Biosensors

Nanobiosensorics Laboratory, Institute for Technical Physics and Materials Science, Centre for Energy Research, Hungarian Academy of Sciences, H-1120 Budapest, Hungary

Introduction
Bio
As the head of the Nanobiosensorics Laboratory in Budapest, he and his team are focusing on the development and application of highly sensitive label-free biosensors (OWLS, GCI, RWG, QCM-I) for small molecule and living cell kinetic analysis and combining these technologies with single cell manipulation techniques (FluidFM BOT, computer controlled micropipette). They first calibrated a waveguide sensor signal to cell adhesion force for unprecedented high-throughput single-cell adhesion force measurements of large cell populations, and first demonstrated the in-depth kinetic analysis of ion binding to proteins using grating coupled interferometry. Mathematical modeling of the kinetic label-free signals is an important part of their research using novel software tools made available for the wider scientific community. For example, using novel biosensing methodologies, they first demonstrated the role of cellular glycocalyx in cancer cell adhesion speed and strength with detailed kinetic analysis and integrin-RGD binding constant measurements in intact, unlabelled living cells. Before returning to Hungary, Robert Horvath was working at Risoe National Laboratory, Denmark and at Cranfield University, England as Talent Project Award holder and Marie Curie Fellow, respectively.
