Welcome From Chairs

Dear colleagues worldwide, we invite you to MOL2NET-01, Conference on Molecular, Biomed., Comput. & Network Science and Engineering (Formerly International Conference on Multidisciplinary Sciences), ISSN: 2624-5078, MDPI SciForum, Basel, Switzerland, 2015. MOL2NET is an international conference formed by an association of several inter-university tans-Atlantic congresses or sessions. These workshops are chaired by one North America/Europe based host chairperson and one or various co-host chairpersons from other centers worldwide. The conference runs as year-round conference series with two main stages. These stages are: (1) Call for papers and (2) Post-publication reviews. In the first stage we open independent workshops in person and/or online, receive papers, do pre-publication review of papers, and perform online publication. Please, read the [MOL2NET Publication Schedule]. Consequently, submissions are open to be published asap upon acceptance in Sciforum platform almost all year at no cost for authors (year-round and free of cost publication). Depending on the schedule we also run a second stage called [MOL2NET Post-Publication Schedule]. On the Post-publication stage we close submission of papers and invite all members of committee, authors, and validated social network followers, to become post-publication reviewers. In this moment members of all workshops can interact together on brain-storming sessions making online comments each other.

Headquarters and Supporters

MOL2NET runs both online and/or in person workshops in host universities worldwide and at the SciForum platform maintained by the editorial MDPI, Basel, Switzerland. The idea of this multidisciplinary conference emerged from the melting pot formed as the result of multiple collaborations of professors from many centers worldwide.

Local Headquarters and Partners. The Scientific Headquarters (HQs) of this conference series are in the Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Basque Country (UPV/EHU), Basque Country, Spain. This center is also the host of some of the workshops of the conference. More specifically, the founders and strongest supporters of the conference are professors endowed by IKERBASQUE, Basque Foundation for Sciences (IKERBASQUE), professors from the Department of Organic & Inorganic Chemistry, Department of Organic Chemistry, and Basque Centre for Biophysics (BIOFISIKA) of the University of Basque Country (UPV/EHU), and Center for Cooperative Research in Biosciences (CICBIOGUNE), Basque Country, Spain. In addition, act also as local co-hosting partners professors from the Department of Computer Sciences of the University of Coruña (UDC), Galicia, Spain. In this sense, all these and other local and international centers acts as co-hosting partners for some of the workshop sessions of this conference.

MOL2NET Lemma and Topics of Interest. The acronym MOL2NET summarizes the running title of this conference: FROM MOLECULES TO NETWORKS. This lemma is inspired by the possibility of spreading the knowledge about multiple topics by promoting multidisciplinary collaborations in science with conferences including topics ranging from quantum world to large social networks. In this sense, the spirit of this conference is in consonance with the lemma EMAN TA ZABAL ZAZU (Give and extend knowledge). This anthem from the 19th century is written in Basque language (Euskera) and is used now a days as the official motto of the University of Basque Country (UPV/EHU).

As results the topics of interest are wide, as is typical on multi-disciplinary sciences, and range from the study of small molecules phenomena to the behavior of large complex networks in nature and society. This include but is not limited to, Chemistry (All areas), Mathematics (Applied), Physics (Applied), Materials Science, Nanotechnology, Biology and Life Sciences (All areas), Medicine, Biomedical Engineering, Education, along with Computer Sciences, Data Analysis, Statistics, Artificial Intelligence, Deep Learning, Bioinformatics, Systems Biology, and Complex Networks Sciences. We suggest you to download the [MOL2NET 2020 Template.doc] to write your communications for conference workshops. Whoever, some other workshops of the series have their custom templates. Instructions for Authors

Submission

Submissions should be done by the authors online by registering with https://sciforum.net/conference/MOL2NET-1 , and using the "Submit New Abstract” function once logged into system. Or using direct submission link: https://sciforum.net/user/submission_for_conference/83

Scholars interested in participating with the conference can submit their abstract (about 150-300 words covering the areas of manuscripts for the proceedings issue) online on this website until 10 November 2015.
The Conference Committee will pre-evaluate, based on the submitted abstract, whether a contribution from the authors of the abstract will be welcome for the Mol2Net Conference. All authors will be notified by ASAP (working week) about the acceptance of their abstract.
If the abstract is accepted for this conference, the author is asked to submit his/her manuscript ASAP (DOC or PDF), until the submission deadline of 10 November 2015.
Optionally, some authors may send also a PowerPoint and/or Video presentation of his/her paper along with the original communication. (Not mandatory)
The manuscripts and presentations will be published on the SciForum proceedings site of the conference: https://sciforum.net/conference/MOL2NET-1 for discussion and rating during the time of the conference 15–30 November 2015.
After the conference, the authors are welcome to submit (optionally) an extended version of the proceeding papers to some of the special issues that will be organized in MDPI journals; contact editors for possible discount of the APC charges.

Manuscripts for the proceedings issue must have the configuration specified on the official template of Mol2Net conference (please download template from conference web or contact us).

Manuscripts should be prepared in MS Word template (.doc / .docx) and should be converted to the PDF format before submission. The final publication format will be PDF. The manuscript should count at least 2-3 pages (incl. figures, tables and references). There is no page limit on the length, although authors are asked to keep their papers as concise as possible.

Presentation Slides (Optional)
Authors may prepare a presentation in PowerPoint or similar software, to be displayed online along with the Manuscript. Slides, if available, will be displayed directly in the website using Sciforum.net's proprietary slides viewer. Slides can be prepared in exactly the same way as for any traditional conference where research results can be presented. Slides should be converted to the PDF format before submission so that our process can easily and automatically convert them for online displaying.

Video Presentations (Optional)
Besides their active participation within the forum, authors are also allowed to submit video presentations. If you are interested in submitting, please contact the conference organizer, conferences@mdpi.com, to get to know more about the procedure. Paper Format: according to official template.
Figures, Schemes and Tables: Authors are encouraged to prepare figures and schemes in color. Full color graphics will be published free of charge. Figure and schemes must be numbered (Figure 1, Scheme I, Figure 2, Scheme II, etc.) and an explanatory title must be added. Tables should be inserted into the main text, and numbers and titles for all tables supplied. All table columns should have an explanatory heading. Please supply legends for all figures, schemes and tables. The legends should be prepared as a separate paragraph of the main text and placed in the main text before a table, a figure or a scheme. Many complex systems may be represented as complex networks of ith parts or nodes (ni) interconnected by some kind of bonds, ties, relationships, links (Lij). For instance, Fowler et al. represented all case citations (Lij) in the U.S. Supreme Court as a network of nj cases citing and/or cited by other. These huge collections of nodes/links are impossible to remember and rationalize by a single person in order to assign correct links in new situations. Fortunately, Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) can help us in this task. If we want use ANNs to predict links in complex networks, first we need to transform all the information into numerical input parameters to feed ANNs, second: we need to find the best ANN to predict our network. We can solve the first problem quantifying the structural information of the complex system (Brain, Ecological, Social, etc.) with universal information measures known as Shannon entropy (Sh). We can quantify topological (connectivity) information of both the complex networks under study and a set of ANNs trained using Shannon measures. Then using both sets of information parameters as inputs we can develop a dual QSPR model to discriminate between SANNs and not efficient ANN topologies. Here we used this QSPR method to develop potential HPC schedulers for complex systems. We studied 663072 citations to majority opinions in 43 sub-networks; each one with 5,000 (5K) citations to U.S. Supreme Court decisions (5KCNs). The overall accuracy of the ANN found was of >85% for 5KCNs; in training and validation series.

Ionic liquids (ILs) possess a unique physicochemical profile providing a wide range of applications. However, their “greenness”, specifically their claimed relative non toxicity has been frequently questioned, hindering their REACH registration processes and so, their final application. In this work we introduce a reliable, predictive, simple and chemically interpretable classification and regression tree (CART) classifier enabling the prioritization of ILs with a favourable cytotoxicity profile. By inspecting the structure of the CART several moieties that can be regarded as “cytotoxicophores” were identified and used to establish a set of SAR trends specifically aimed to prioritise low cytotoxicity ILs. We also demonstrated the suitability of the joint use of the CART classifier and a group fusion similarity search as a virtual screening strategy for the automatic prioritisation of safe ILs disperse in a data set of ILs of moderate to very high cytotoxicity. Additionally, we decided to complement the quantitative results already obtained by applying the network-like similarity graphs (NSG) approach to the mining of relevant structure-cytotoxicity relationships (SCR) trends. Finally, the SCR information concurrently gathered by both, quantitative (CART classifier) and qualitative (NSG) approaches was used to design a focused combinatorial library enriched with potentially safe ILs.

Different aspects about the epidemiology, drugs, targets, chem-bioinformatics, and systems biology methods, related to AIDS/HIV have been reviewed. Next, we developed a new model to predict complex networks of the AIDS prevalence in U.S. counties taking into consideration the Gini coefficient (income inequality) and activity/structure data of anti-HIV drugs in preclinical assays. First, we trained different Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) using as input Markov and Symmetry information indices of social networks and of molecular graphs, respectively. We obtained the data about AIDS prevalence and Gini coefficient from the AIDSVu database of the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University and the data about anti-HIV compounds from ChEMBL database. To train/validate the model and predict the complex network we needed to analyze 43,249 data points including values of AIDS prevalence in 2310 US counties vs. ChEMBL results for 21,582 unique drugs, 9 viral or human protein targets, 4856 protocols, and 10 possible experimental measures. The best model found was a Linear Neural Network (LNN) with Accuracy, Specificity, Sensitivity, and AUROC above 0.72-0.73 in training and external validation series. The new linear equation was shown to be useful to generate complex network maps of drug activity vs. AIDS/HIV epidemiology in U.S. at county level.

In the last years the demand of activated carbons for environmental remediation and medical applications has been growing. This situation has stimulated the study of new precursors for the synthesis of these adsorbents. This work shows the kinetic parameters of activation process of Marabou Wood (Leptoptilus Crumeniferus) using a simple mathematical model. These parameters were compared with ones corresponding to other tropical biomasses studied under similar conditions. To conduct the study, a thermo-gravimetric analysis was carried out in steam water. The study was carried on from room temperature to 1000°C with a heating rate of 10°C/min, additionally; the crystallinity was determined by X-rays diffraction analysis. The characterization of the activated carbon was carried out through parameters that provide an indirect measure of the mechanical resistance. Interesting correlations for the analyzed thermal conversion processes were also obtained.

This communication shows a classification model for prediction of mycobacterial promoter sequences (mps), which constitute a very low sequence homology problem. The model developed (mps = –4.664·⁰ξ_M + 0.991·¹ξ_M – 2.432) was intended to predict whether a naturally occurring sequence is an mps or not on the basis of the calculated^kξ_M value for the corresponding RNA secondary structure. The model predicted 115/135 mps (85.2%) and 100% of control sequences (cs). The detailed results have been published in detail in: Bioorg Med Chem Lett. 2006 Feb;16(3):547-53, the present is a short communications.

USEDAT Congress

USEDAT: USA-Europe Data Analysis Training Congress and Bootcamps School Program is a Multi-center Trans-Atlantic initiative offering hands-on training focused on both Introduction to Experimental Data Recording (NMR, MS, IR, 2DGE, EEG, TG/DTG, HTS/NGS, etc.) and/or posterior Computational Modelling, Simulation, and Data Analysis (Machine Learning, Complex Networks, etc.). We made emphasis on applications in Cheminformatics, Bioinformatics, Medicinal Chemistry, Nanotechnology, Systems Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Biotechnology, Energy, Biomass, and Biofuels, etc. The program also promotes training and knowledge of ethical and legal regulatory issues (GDPR, REACH, OECD, FDA, etc.) about data use and data protection in chemistry and biomedical research.

The program is directed to researchers and students worldwide. The initiative joins various sister summer schools, workshops, boot camps, hands-on training courses, and/or capstone courses of universities in United States and Europe. USEDAT Program & Congress Participation

The professors and students interested on USEDAT are welcome to submit their research works to be published in USEDAT School Congress and/or in any other of the MOL2NET workshops associated to the school. For in-site participation contact the coordinators of the different courses or the general coordinator. For participation in the workshops, click submit to send the title and abstract of your communication. After that, wait to receive after approval email. Almost all schools have workshops published by the MOL2NET Conference series (see details at follows). The professors, researchers, and students interested on this workshop are also welcome to participate in the international network of courses offered by USEDAT program. Welcome Message

We are glad to invite all colleagues worldwide to participate on a new edition of the workshop NIXMSM-05: North-Ibero-American Congress on EXperimental and Simulation Methods, Valencia, Spain-Miami, USA, 2015. The workshop publish totally free of charge communications in multidisciplinary sciences involving experimental and/or computational methods. The field of application include, but are not limited to, Biomolecular, Biomedical, Materials, Environmental, Trade, Learning, Education, and Social sciences in general (see scope section).

North-Ibero-American Trans-Atlantic Host Institutions. This is an Inter-university Trans-Atlantic workshop co-chaired by intuitions of the North-Ibero-America and Europe cultural area. From Iberian Europe's side, the founder chairpersons are professors of the Institute of Molecular Science (ICMol), University of Valencia (UV), and the Catholic University of Valencia (UCV), Valencia, Spain. From the America's side the workshop is co-hosted by professors of Department of Systems and Computer Engineering, Carleton University (UCARLETON), Canada, and Department of Mathematics Miami Dade College (MDC), Miami, USA. From Lusitanic cultural area the Europe chairpersons come from Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, University of Porto (UPORTO), Porto, Portugal and the America Chairperson from Dept. de Química, Universidade Federal da Paraíba (UFPB), Paraíba, Brasil. All in all, the workshop is associated to the MOL2NET (From Molecules to Networks), International Conference Series on Multidisciplinary Sciences, ISSN: 2624-5078, MDPI SciForum, Basel, Switzerland, 2020. Consequently, the founders and co-host chairs come also from the University of The Basque Country (UPV/EHU) and IKERBASQUE, Basque Foundation for Science, Bilbao, Basque Country.

Working Languages. English is the main working language of the workshop. However, as a North-Ibero-American inclusive conference the workshop aims to accept papers to be published in multiple languages spoken on the countries, states, and communities of the entire North-Ibero-American area of influence. It involve, but is not limited to: México, Brazil, Spain, Portugal, USA, Canada, Chile, Ecuador, Basque Country, Catalunya, Valencia, Galicia, etc. Consequently, we accept papers on the following languages: English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Basque (Euskera), Catalá / Valenciano, and Galego. We also accept bi-lingual posters in two-column format, e.g, English-Basque, English-Spanish, English-Portuguese, Spanish-Galego, etc.

Scope and Target Audience. This conference focus on both under-graduated, MSc, and PhD students, as well as Professors, Engineers, and Researchers. The topics of interest cover both Experimental Research and Computational Modelling and Simulation Methods. We made special emphasis on the use of new Technologies of Information and Computation (ITCs) to support Experimental research.

The experimental methods made special emphasis on experimental methods in bio-molecular sciences and biomedical sciences. Examples of experimental methods of interest are those used on Biophysics, Molecular Biology, Medicinal Chemistry, Biomaterials, Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, etc. such as Microscopy, Spectroscopy (NMR, IR, Raman, X-Ray) for Biomolecules Characterization, Image recording methods (fNMRi), EEGG and ECG, etc.

The computational methods include, but are not limited to, Computational Biophysics, Computational Biology, Quantum Chemistry, Bioinformatics, Systems Biology, Complex Networks, Discrete Mathematics, Mathematical Analysis, Complex Networks Sciences, Statistics, Data Analysis, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning, Deep Learning, etc.

Bioethical, Legal & Regulatory Affairs. Last, not the least, the workshop deals with all the Legal, Regulatory, and Bioethics issues emerging from the use of both experimental and modelling and simulation methods in the previous areas. This include, Drug, Gene, Protein, Vaccine, Biomarkers, and Biomaterials patentability, Personalized Medicine and Personal Data Protection, Cybersecurity, Cryptocurrency Mining, Data Protection in Personal Image Processing, Software and Models Copyrights, etc.

CHEMBIOINFO-01 published this year the special workshop CHEMBIOSOFT aimed at presenting the most commonly used software tools in Multidisciplinary Science. Include, but is not limited to, new scientific software, web servers, databases, etc. with applications in Chemistry (all branches), Bioinformatics, Proteomics, Biotechnology, Medical Informatics and Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, etc.

The short communications should present computational tools that may be desktop/web/mobile applications/scripts, open code or private software. The tool may be original or a pipe of other tools. It should contain a software description, case uses in order to understand how to employ it, links to the open repositories (GitHub, GitLab, Personal Webs, etc.) or official Webs of the private products, and references of the publications where the tools have been applied. The authors may include in the communication a link to their personal webs, web servers, repositories, databases, etc.

Special attention will be paid to the links to tutorials (blogs, videos, etc.), print screens with the tools in action, pseudocodes, examples of input and outputs, script examples while using the tools, and links to the social network posts for the tools. The emphasis of this section is on the software per se. Communications that make use of a software to solve a practical problem but do not put emphasis on describing it could be suitable for other sections.

Dear colleagues worldwide welcome to NANOBIOMAT-01: Nanotechnology & Materials Science Congress, Jackson & Fargo, USA, 2015. NANOBIOMAT series welcome contributions in all experimental and/or computational topics related to Biomaterials, Biotechnology, Material Sciences, and Nanotechnology. The topics include, but are not limited to the sustainable development of new and safe molecules, materials, biomaterials, polymers, biopolymers, etc. with emphasis on Nanotechnology, Material Sciences, Polymers, Coating Materials, Nanotoxicology, Toxicology, Biomaterials, Biopolymers, Biotechnology, Biomarkers, Vaccines, Biofuels, Enzymes, Computational Materials and Nanosciences, Cheminformatics, Nanoparticle Drug Delivery Systems, etc. The workshop also deals with all the legal and regulatory uses related to the patenting, production, and use of nanomaterials and their impact in human safety and environment.

The workshop is also associated and/or supported by NSF-CREST Interdisciplinary Center for Nanotoxicity (ICN) [ICNANOTOX]. This center supports enhancement of research and educational programs at Jackson State University (JSU). The firs edition of this workshops was originally published as a session but with time gained identity and have been now renamed as chembiomol-01, a posteriori . On Americas' side the workshop is chaired and co-hosted by professors of Dept. of Pharmacology and Toxicology (PHTOX), University of Texas Medical Branch , Galveston, USA. Before to submitting your communication recommend to download and use the [Template File] to write your communication; we strongly recommend you to read carefully the following notes to participants about publication model, copyright, authors responsibilities, etc Firstly, be aware that the works published here belongs to two main modalities preliminary communications or comments on previous works.

Preliminary communications. These are not post-print journal papers. In this sense, committee and/or external reviewers check only scope and apparent scientific soundness. They have the same editorial process than for an online Preprint service. Therefore, all works receive doi number and are indexed in databases (GoogleScholar, Publons, etc.).The works may receive also comments from registered participants (public post-publication review). The authors are encouraged to submit their works to a peer-reviewed scientific journals of MDPI or other editorials during or after finalization of the conference, as per SciForum copyright rules.

Comments on previous works are short notes to comment about the more interesting points, highlights, etc. of works previously published by the authors or other groups. MOL2NET Transversal Workshops. MOL2NET is a federation of different North America-Europe Inter-University Trans-Atlantic Congresses, please see the list of congresses of this edition [MOL2NET'15 Congresses]. In addition to these congresses the conference has different Transversal Associated Events including workshops, webinars, roundtables, etc. These transversal associated events are announced, published and/or run together with our congresses. They may be hosted by one specific congress and/or run transversally in more than one MOL2NET congresses at time, according to the specific topic of each paper.

REVIEWWWERS Workshop

MOL2NET'15, Conference on Molecular, Biomedical, & Computational Sciences and Engineering, ISSN: 2624-5078, MDPI SciForum, Basel, Switzerland, 2015, attracted this year >95 communications and abstracts submitted by >280 authors to 5 USA-Europe Inter-University Congresses and Workshops. Now, we are closing publication phase and consequently we are entering the post-publication phase in the form of discussion/review workshop.

MOL2NET REVIEWWWERS = REVIEW + WORLD WIDE WEB (WWW) is workshop focused on the post-publication discussion/review of all the papers published in the last edition of the conference. The workshop also focus on post-publication abstracts indexed in our conference with full versions papers already published as part of special issues associated to the conference and published by MDPI journals. In this workshop we invite all colleagues, authors, committee, and/or validated conference followers to participate by posting comments to communications, questions to authors, answers/suggestions to reviewers and followers, public collaborations proposals, etc. You can become a certified post-publication reviewer acting over the web. The participation in the workshop is totally free of cost. We wish you a fruitful reviewwwing experience!!!

Reviewwwers role. The Sciforum platform, host of this conference, allows you to perform post-publication review of papers. MOL2NET conference opens all years a post-publication stage. On this stage each year we prompt reviewers worldwide to perform post-publication reviews/comments about of papers published the year before and interact online with the authors of all these communications. By getting involved you can become a certified reviewer of conference communications acting over the web. One this modality of the workshop we invite all members of committee, authors, and validated social network followers, to become post-publication reviewers of all papers published the year before in our conference. They can make public questions to authors, suggest new collaborations, etc.

Inter-congress cross-commenting. Cross-commenting of authors of one workshop to other workshop are specially welcome. People invited are professors, researchers, PhD/MSc students, and science writers with validated LinkedIn, ResearchGate, ORCID, or Publons profiles. We aware our reviewers to take into consideration that most papers published are preliminary pre-print versions. Consequently, the objective is not to perform a detailed review of the papers.
