Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology, University of Coimbra, Coimbra, Portugal;
Armindo José Alves da Silva Salvador graduated in Biochemistry by the University of Lisbon in 1988, and obtained a Ph. D. in Biochemistry in 1997 from the same University under Dr. Ruy Pinto. He was a post-doctoral fellow at the Institute for Chemical and Biological Technology (Portugal) (1997-8, Membrane Biophysics, Dr. Eurico Melo’s lab), at the University of Michigan (U.S.A.) (1998-2000, Computational Systems Biology, Dr. Michael Savageau’s lab) and at the University of Coimbra (Portugal) (2002-5, Molecular Systems Biology, Dr. Winchil Vaz’ lab), a research fellow at Pfizer Global Research & Development/The University of Michigan (2000-2) and a visiting scholar at the University of California - Davis (U.S.A.) (2002, Molecular Systems Biology). Since 2005 he leads the Computational and Systems Biology Group at the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology - The University of Coimbra. Dr. Armindo Salvador's main research interests are focused on the relationship between function and design in redox signaling and antioxidant protection. He addresses these problems using mathematical models that integrate the current knowledge about the molecular players in these processes to gain insight on systems-level properties. He is the President of the Portuguese Biophysical Society (2021-), and member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Theoretical Biology (2009-).

On Friday, 22 July 2022, MDPI and the Antioxidants Journal organized the 3rd webinar on Antioxidants, entitled "The Role of Peroxiredoxins in Antioxidant Defense and Redox Signaling".

The introduction was held by the Chair of the webinar, Dr. Armindo José Alves da Silva Salvador. Since 2005 he leads the Computational and Systems Biology Group at the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology - The University of Coimbra.

The first speaker was Prof. Dr. Bruce Morgan with his presentation "Novel Insights Into the Enzymatic Mechanism and Physiological Functions of Peroxiredoxin". He is Professor of Biochemistry at the Saarland State Chancellery, in Germany.

The second presentation was held by Dr. Sophie Rahuel-Clermont with her presentation "Probing the Mechanism of the Peroxiredoxin Decamer Interaction With Its Reductase Sulfiredoxin From the Single Molecule to the Solution Scale". She is research director in the Molecular and Structural Enzymology team of the IMoPA lab at University of Lorraine in Nancy, France.

The presentations were followed by a Q&A and a discussion, moderated by the Chair Dr. Armindo José Alves da Silva Salvador. The webinar was offered via Zoom and required registration to attend. The full recording can be found here on Sciforum website.
