Plasma medicine is a dynamically developing interdisciplinary field, with many biological applications. The effects of cold atmospheric plasma are mainly based on the production of various chemical species, which can vary according to the plasma devices used and the types of liquids treated.
In this webinar, the description of a novel approach to the chemical characterization of plasma-treated liquids will follow an overview of the main types of plasma sources, with a final focus on applications in cancer treatment.
Researchers in different disciplines, from life sciences to chemistry and physics, are welcome to attend in order to find out more about plasma medicine. The webinar is open to beginners who want to approach this promising field, as well as to more experienced researchers in search of novel insights in plasma mechanisms and applications.

The webinar’s aim was to give an insight into the wide interdisciplinary field of plasma medicine.
The first speaker, Prof. Emilio Martines, described different plasma sources for biomedical applications, giving details for their practical use.
Prof. Marcello Locatelli spoke about the characterization of the Cold Atmospheric Plasma (CAP) activated culture media by an innovative approach based on ion chromatography, which allows the quantification of different anions related to reactive oxygen and nitrogen species produced by CAP exposure.
Coming to biological applications, Prof. Nagendra Kaushik presented a comprehensive analysis of plasma-treated water applications in oncology, offering a wide perspective ranging from chemical characterization to in vitro and in vivo analyses, and finally focusing on the effects on tumour microenvironment.
Last but not least, Prof. Neha Kaushik provided an interesting focus on the potential of genomics in exploring the effects of plasma treated solutions in fighting different types of tumours.
According to the speaker's request, we only kept the webinar recording of the Q&A part.
