Aortic Aneurysms: Mechanisms and Pathogenesis

We are delighted to announce the Webinar of our Special Issue on "Aortic Aneurysm and Dissection: Heterogeneity and Molecular Mechanisms".

Aortic aneurysm and dissection are devastating diseases that have a high risk for aortic rupture, leading to uncontrolled bleeding and death. These diseases have complex molecular mechanisms and pathophysiological features. This Webinar invites two research scientists, Drs. Frank Davis and Alan Daugherty, to discuss inflammation-related molecular mechanisms and pathological heterogeneity of aortic aneurysm and dissection. Dr. Frank Davis is a vascular surgeon and research scientist at the University of Michigan. He is a rising star in the research field of aortic aneurysms. Dr. Alan Daugherty is a well-established scientist in the field of aortic aneurysms. He is the Editor-in-Chief of ATVB (Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology), an American Heart Association journal.

On Wednesday, 20 April 2022, MDPI and the Journal Biomolecules organized the 8th webinar on Biomolecules, entitled "Aortic Aneurysms: Mechanisms and Pathogenesis".

Aortic aneurysms are a devastating disease that has a high risk for aortic rupture, leading to uncontrolled bleeding and death. It has complex molecular mechanisms and heterogeneous pathological features.

Dr. Frank Davis introduced epigenetic regulation of inflammation in abdominal aortic aneurysm development focusing on a histone demethylase JMJD3 (the Jumonji domain-containing protein-3).

Dr. Alan Daugherty presented his research work on embryonic origin-mediated mechanisms of ascending aortic aneurysms. He also introduced the contributions of LRP1 (low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 1) to the arterial wall integrity.

The presentations were followed by a Q&A and a discussion, moderated by the Chairs; Dr. Hong Lu, Dr. Hisashi Sawada and Dr. Conqing Wu, of University of Kentucky, USA .
