


On Monday, 30 May 2022, MDPI and the Journal Biomolecules organized the 9th Webinar on Biomolecules, entitled "Role of NRF2 in Disease: Novel Molecular Mechanisms and Therapeutic Approaches II”. This online seminar was chaired by Dr. Isabel Lastres-Becker from the Department of Biochemistry, School of Medicine, Universidad Autonoma de Madrid, Madrid, Spain. The three speakers Prof. Dr. Antonio Cuadrado, Dr. Albena T. Dinkova-Kostova, and Prof. Dr. Giles E. Hardingham discussed the relevance of the transcription factor NRF2 in the development of different pathologies and the therapeutic implications that the modulation of this pathway can have.
The first speaker to kick off the webinar was Prof. Dr. Antonio Cuadrado from the Autonomous University of Madrid, Spain. He showed how the NRF2-KEAP1 signalling pathway can be targeted pharmacologically to treat neurodegenerative diseases. Dr. Albena T. Dinkova-Kostova, from the University of Dundee, United Kingdom, followed with her presentation on targeting KEAP1 with electrophiles and KEAP1-NRF2 protein-protein interaction inhibitors for disease prevention and treatment. Finally, Prof. Dr. Giles E. Hardingham, from the UK Dementia Research Institute and the University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom, presented the adaptive protective responses of glial cells to Alzheimer’s Disease pathology. Their presentations were followed by Q&A sessions moderated by the chair.
