Mechanisms of Immunotherapy in Cancers

Due to the on-going health and economic situation across the globe, and the associated uncertainties regarding health and safety, transportation, catering, and access issues, MDPI is offering the possibility of organizing webinars, alongside our other conferences.

With the support of MDPI’s journal Cancers, a webinar on "Mechanism of Immunotherapy" will be held, moving from the high quality reports, recently published in Cancers Special Issue, entitled "Mechanism of Immunotherapy”. The webinar aims at allowing scientists, who participated to the collection and received a very high feedback, to present their latest research and discuss further issues with their peers.

The webinar will conclude with a Q&A session where speakers will be able to answer the attendees’ questions. The webinar will be recorded and uploaded to Sciforum.

On Monday 11 April 2022, MDPI and the Journal Cancers organized their 8th webinar entitled "Mechanisms of Immunotherapy in Cancers".

The introduction was held by the Chair of the webinar, Dr. Antonia Curti from IRCCS Azienda ospedaliero-universitaria di Bologna, Seràgnoli Hematology Unit, Italy.

The first speaker to kick off this webinar was Dr. Esther Barreiro from Pulmonology Department-Muscle Wasting and Cachexia in Chronic Respiratory Diseases and Lung Cancer Research Group, IMIM-Hospital del Mar, Parc de Salut Mar, Department of Medicine and Life Sciences (MELIS), Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF), Centro de Investigación en Red de Enfermedades Respiratoria (CIBERES), and the Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII), Barcelona, Spain. Her talk was entitled “Elucidating the Immune Microenvironment for Immunotherapy in Lung Cancer: Animal and Human Studies”. Her lines of research are linked to the study of molecular mechanisms involved in cancer cachexia and muscle wasting in chronic conditions, as well as lung cancer predisposition in patients with underlying respiratory conditions using animal, cell, and human models. Moreover, she is also in seeking of therapeutic targets for the improvement of muscle mass loss and cachexia associated with chronic respiratory conditions.

The second presentation with the title "The Immune Phenotype of Isolated Lymphoid Structures in Non-Tumorous Colon Mucosa Encrypts the Information on Pathobiology of Metastatic Colorectal Cancer" was held by Dr. Diana Mechtcheriakova from the Institute of Pathophysiology and Allergy Research, Center of Pathophysiology, Infectiology and Immunology, Medical University of Vienna, Vienna, Austria. Her current scientific interests/main research areas are systems biology and systems medicine as part of the global concept of personalized medicine, B-cell biology, and immuno-oncology. Special interests refer to the AID/APOBEC-associated biological events; architectural complexity and functionality of ectopic lymphoid structures, producing memory B cells and plasma cells; developing of integrative systems biology-based algorithms in a process of discovery of novel disease-/immune-associated checkpoints and patients’ stratification strategies; and the cellular sphingolipid/lysophosphatidate system in immunity and cancer.

The presentations were followed by a Q&A and a discussion, moderated by the Chair. The webinar was offered via Zoom and required registration to attend.
