
Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP), also called non-thermal plasma (NTP), is a partially ionized gas that is being studied as a localized cancer therapy, in a field now coined as ‘plasma oncology’. CAP is created by applying electricity to a gas at atmospheric pressure and near room temperature and consists of neutral gas molecules, radicals, and excited species, which can rapidly react with cancerous tissue and induce therapeutic effects. These include the modulation and activation of multiple signaling pathways in cancer cells and the stimulation of host, anti-cancer immunity. Over the past decade, there is mounting evidence of the therapeutic, anti-cancer potential of CAP based on preclinical investigations: 2D and 3D in vitro studies, in silico computer modeling, and in vivo models. Now, the major challenge for the plasma oncology field is to take fundamental insights and translate this technology for clinical applications.
For this webinar, we have invited experts in the field of plasma oncology to present the state-of-the-art findings and provide insights into the next steps towards clinical translation.

On Monday, 24 October 2022, MDPI and the Journal Cancers organized the 8th webinar on Cancers, entitled "Plasma Oncology".
We thank the speakers for the insightful talks on the role of the immune response on plasma therapies, the importance of clinical studies, and the considerations on how to move the field of plasma oncology forward from the clinical point of view. We hope this webinar brings light to the potential of plasma therapy for cancer, and opens the discussion on how to accelerate its transition to the clinic.
The presentations were followed by a Q&A and a discussion, moderated by the Chairs. The webinar was offered via Zoom and required registration to attend.
