On Wednesday, 27 April 2022, MDPI and the Journal Cells organized the 17th Webinar on Cells, entitled "Cell Calcium across the Phylogenetic Tree: From Physiological Signaling to Pathogenic Mechanisms”. This online seminar was chaired by Dr. Dmitry Lim from the Department of Pharmaceutical Science, University of Piemonte Orientale, Novara, Italy. The three speakers Dr. Petronella Kettunen, Dr. Luigia Santella, and Dr. Letizia Zullo reviewed cell calcium signalling across different animal models and cell types.
The first speaker to kick off the webinar was Dr. Petronella Kettunen from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. She showed how calcium imaging in the Zebrafish can be used to better understand brain functions. Dr. Luigia Santella from the Zoological Station of Naples "Anton Dohrn", Naples, Italy, followed with her presentation on sperm fertilization of sea urchin eggs. Finally, Dr. Letizia Zullo, from the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT), Genova, Italy, described how calcium regulates muscle contraction in the octopus. Their presentations were followed by Q&A sessions moderated by the chair.
The webinar was offered via Zoom and required registration to attend. The full recording can be found below. In order to stay updated on the next webinars on Cells, be sure to sign up for our newsletter by clicking on “Subscribe” at the top of the page.
