In 1992, Prof Barker proposed that changes in vascular structure and compliance might explain the fetal origins of adult hypertension. To address this public health problem, it is crucial to understand the mechanistic links between poor growth in utero and hypertension. An appreciation of the underlying pathophysiology is key to assessing therapeutic directions. This webinar charts a life course journey in IUGR cohorts, from fetal life through to adulthood.

Dr Crispi is a physician scientist combining a clinical position as consultant at Clínic Barcelona Hospital with leading the Fetal Cardiac Programming research team at IDIBAPS and teaching at the University of Barcelona. Dr Crispi leads translational research aiming to improve cardiovascular health of the future generations.

Prof Sehgal is a Neonatologist who completed his PhD in 2016 and Doctorate of Science (Perinatal Cardiovascular Physiology) in 2025 while working as a full time intensivist. His research has twice (2019 & 2024) been awarded the Australian and New Zealand Neonatal Network Research Award. Prof Sehgal's current research focuses on cardiovascular adaptations in infants with severe bronchopulmonary and those with fetal growth restriction.
