Dear colleagues,

I am delighted to invite you to join our upcoming webinar hosted by Games (MDPI), where we will proudly present our Best Paper Award and our 2023 Outstanding Reviewer Award. This event will be a celebration of exceptional contributions to the field of game theory and a platform to showcase pioneering research.

We are honored to announce that our Best Paper Award will be awarded to Prof. Jonathan Newton, whose excellent 2018 survey “Evolutionary Game Theory: A Renaissance” has significantly advanced our understanding of evolutionary game theory’s applications and recent developments. Prof. Newton will present his latest research on conventions, offering a glimpse into innovative methodologies and impactful findings at the research frontier in this field.

Additionally, we are pleased to present the 2023 Outstanding Reviewer Award to Prof. Satoshi Uchida in acknowledgment of his meticulous and invaluable contributions to the peer review process. His dedication to maintaining the highest standards of scholarly excellence has been instrumental to the success of our journal. Prof. Uchida will discuss his current research on behavioral aspects of the evolution of cooperation, providing attendees with an opportunity to engage with his cutting-edge theoretical explorations.

Meet Our Speakers

Prof. Dr. Jonathan Newton

Prof. Dr. Jonathan Newton

Institute of Economic Research, Kyoto University, Japan;
Prof. Jonathan Newton obtained his PhD in Economics from the University of Cambridge in 2011. He joined Kyoto University’s Institute of Economic Research in 2018. He works on evolutionary game theory, with a focus on its application to the social sciences. In particular, he has worked on the incorporation of shared intentions and collective agency into evolutionary game theory and has used evolutionary game theory to tackle problems in bargaining theory, the evolution of preferences, and contagion.

Prof. Dr. Satoshi Uchida

Prof. Dr. Satoshi Uchida

Research Center for Ethi-culture Studies, RINRI Institute, Japan, High-tech Research Center, Kokushikan University, Japan;
Dr. Satoshi Uchida obtained his PhD in Physics from Darmstadt University of Technology (Germany) in 2008. After that, he spent two years as a guest researcher at the Department of Mathematics at the University of Vienna before returning to Japan. He currently serves as a research manager at the Research Center for Ethi-culture Studies (RINRI Institute), a guest researcher at the High-tech Research Center (Kokushikan University), and a part-time lecturer at the Tokyo University of Science. His main research interest lies in evolutionary game theory, with a particular focus on its applications to indirect reciprocity in the evolution of cooperation.

On Wednesday, 9 October 2024, MDPI and Games organized a webinar entitled "Evolutionary Game Theory - Games Best Paper Award and Outstanding Reviewer Award Ceremony".

This Games webinar focused on celebrating two award winners for their contributions to our journal. The event featured two key presentations. Jonathan Newton, winner of the Games Best Paper Award, presented on "Recent Advances in the Game Theory of Conventions". Prof. Newton is renowned for his work in evolutionary game theory and social learning, and his award-winning survey article “Evolutionary Game Theory: A Renaissance” (Games, 2018, 9(2): 31) has made a significant impact. Satoshi Uchida, honored with this year’s Outstanding Reviewer Award, discussed his research on "Prospect Theory and Indirect Reciprocity in the Evolution of Cooperation". As a specialist in the field of indirect reciprocity, Prof. Uchida has contributed extensively to understanding the dynamics of reputation-based cooperation. He has not only authored many excellent reviews but also published multiple papers in Games. The webinar facilitated insightful discussions following both presentations.

About Best Paper Award and Outstanding Reviewer Award
The Games Best Paper Award is granted to highlight publications of high quality, scientific significance, and extensive influence. The evaluation committee members will choose one article of exceptional quality from all of the articles published in the journal and announce it online by the end of June of each year.

The Outstanding Reviewer Award is granted annually to recognize reviewers who generously contribute their time to reviewing papers and display thoroughness, professionalism, and timeliness while doing so. Winners will be chosen from all of the previous year's reviewers and announced by the end of May each year.
