In order to commemorate International Day of Education 2024 (https://www.un.org/en/observances/education-day), MDPI is launching a special webinar to encourage researchers to join together, take action, and raise awareness as to how the exchange of findings facilitates efforts for quality education.
Education is a human right, a public good and a public responsibility. We aim to encourage connection and collaboration among education researchers and the international open access community. Sharing knowledge is a human right, and tackling educational challenges requires the rapid exchange of knowledge across different boundaries.
The webinar aims to encourage connections and collaboration among air pollution researchers and the international open access community to share and discuss their research findings. We are very much looking forward to seeing you at the MDPI International Day of Education Webinar 2024

Meet Our Speakers
Prof. Dr. James M. Kauffman
University of Virginia, USA;
James M. Kauffman's awards include the 2011 Distinguished Alumni Award from its School of Education. He has been a classroom teacher in both special and general education and taught at the University of Virginia from 1970-2006. He has published over 100 articles in refereed journals and is author, co-author, or co-editor of more than 30 books. Among his most recent books are the edited volumes, On Educational Inclusion: Meanings, History, Issues and International Perspectives, Revitalizing Special Education: Revolution, Devolution, and Evolution, and Navigating Students’ Mental Health in the Wake of COVID-19: Using Public Health Crises to Inform Research and Practice.
Prof. Dr. Garry Hornby
University of Plymouth, UK;
Garry Hornby grew up in England and emigrated to New Zealand in 1971. He worked as a mainstream and special class teacher for 7 years, then trained and worked as an educational psychologist for 7 years. He returned to England in 1986 and spent 14 years researching and lecturing at the Universities of Manchester and Hull, including two years working as a consultant on special needs education for the government of Barbados. In 2002 he became Professor of Education at the University of Canterbury and worked there for 12 years. In 2016 and 2017 he worked as Director of Research in the Institute of Education at the University of Plymouth, becoming Emeritus Professor in 2018. He has published over 200 journal articles and book chapters, and 18 books that include: Mental Health Handbook for Schools; Counselling Pupils in Schools; Meeting Special Needs in Mainstream Schools; Parental Involvement in Childhood Education; Inclusive Special Education; Essential Evidence-based Teaching Strategies; Inclusive Education at the Crossroads.
Dr. Sarit Ashkenazi
The Seymour Fox School of Education, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel;
Children and adults with poor numeracy are at a disadvantage in both academic and everyday life situations (e.g., field of study in the university, handling money, and high chances of unemployment) . Developmental dyscalculia (DD) is a specific disorder of numerical and mathematical abilities in the absence of other cognitive impairments. She is interested in core numeracy skills in DD (such as understanding of magnitude and counting), as well as, the contribution and co-occurrences of domain general abilities (i.e. attention and working memory) in the etiology of DD.
One of her most important scientific goals is to apply her study to improve the society in Israel and abroad. DD is a topic that is very important to study, due to the dramatic effect of learning disabilities on the individual's wellbeing long after elementary school. Moreover, learning disabilities are an important negative contributor to an individual's performance in all aspects of day to day life. Accordingly, discovery of the etiology of DD, effective diagnostic tools and possible interventions, will advance the society.
