
Welcome to our webinar entitled Healthy Child, Healthy Adult – Longevity and Healthy Living. This webinar will focus on the current state of children’s physical activity and nutrition, with regard to current and long-term health issues, NCDs as a public health concern and the consequences for individuals. It will also look at how we can enhance quality of life as we age. We will be paying particular attention to nutrition and physical activity for long-term benefits and examine some of the current policies and strategies that have been researched and shown to help in this area. We will also be discussing how the current guidelines support these healthy initiatives as part of public health for the population.

Dr. David Cox is a specialist health and medical journalist. He has a PhD in neuroscience from the University of Cambridge, and has covered all aspects of healthcare over the past decade, with a particular focus on nutrition and the ongoing revolution in ageing science. He writes regularly for newspapers, broadcasters and scientific journals around the world, from The Telegraph, The Guardian, BBC, The Times, WIRED and NBC News to the British Medical Journal. His work is often discussed on TV and radio programmes around the world, and he has been shortlisted 14 times for various journalism awards. "The Age Code”, a two-year investigation into the science behind what we eat and how well we age, is his first book.

Dr. Samantha Robinson is the programme lead for BSc (hons) Sport & Exercise Science, and a lecturer in Sport & Exercise Psychology. Her research focuses on the development and application of 24-hour movement guidelines, examining how physical activity, sleep, and sedentary behaviour interact to influence children’s health and wellbeing.

My current research focuses on how nutritional interventions influence muscle function, recovery, and long-term health, with the goal of identifying strategies that promote strength and vitality across the lifespan. I'm currently completing my PhD at the University of Glasgow, where I'm exploring how Omega-3 fatty acids and protein support healthy ageing. I am also CEO of StudySetGo, which is a contract research organisation which specialises in running remote research trials for commercial entities.
