The Impact of Oxidative Stress on Male and Female Germ Cells: From Redox Biology to Photon Emission
I am very pleased to welcome you to this webinar. This event concerns a scientific area that has become one of the most exciting and dynamically developing directions of biological research in recent years—the relationship between oxidative stress and reproductive cells. Oxidative stress, the delicate balance of redox homeostasis, and the cellular processes arising from them are crucial not only for basic research but also for clinical applications.
The goal of today’s webinar is to facilitate a deeper understanding of these processes—with a special focus on how they affect the function, viability, and communication of male and female germ cells. We are particularly pleased that internationally recognized researchers in this field will share their latest findings and experiences with us. I believe that the lectures and discussions here will not only provide new scientific inspirations but also contribute to the birth of new collaborations.

Meet Our Speakers
Prof. Dr. József Bódis
Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, National Laboratory on Human Reproduction, University of Pécs, Hungary;
József Bódis is a university professor at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the University of Pécs. Since 2022, he has been the director of the National Laboratory on Human Reproduction. He obtained his Phd in 1989 and his DSc from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 1998. According to the MTMT database, he has 652 publications. His work has resulted in 32 patents and 2 trademarks. Between 2010 and 2018, he was the rector of the University of Pécs. During this period, he was elected twice as President of the Hungarian Rectors' Conference.
Dr. Ilya Volodyaev
M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University; European Medical Center, Moscow, Russia;
Ilya Volodyaev, PhD, is a senior researcher at the Department of Embryology, Lomonosov Moscow State University, and a senior embryologist at the European Medical Center (Moscow). With formal training in biophysics (Moscow State University) and a PhD in developmental biophysics, he develops and applies quantitative and physical approaches to problems in early development and reproductive medicine, including embryo morphogenesis, self-organization, and cell–cell interactions. His biophysics work includes ultraweak photon emission and free radical processes in biological systems, and he has served as the editor of the Springer monograph Ultra Weak Photon Emission from Biological Systems: Endogenous Biological Biophotonics (2023, 521 pp), contributing chapters on mitogenetic rays, oxidation/free radicals and ultraweak luminescence, and the physics of photon emission. He also works on preimplantation genetic testing and human embryo genetics, as well as mitochondrial biology and nuclear transfer technologies. He received the “Giuliano Preparata Prize” (2004) for a monograph on coherent biophysics linking physics and biology.
Dr. Kálmán Kovács
Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Medical School University of Pécs, Hungary;
Kálmán Kovács, MD, PhD, is a reproductive medicine specialist and Director of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Pécs Clinical Center, Hungary. He is a leading expert in assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs) and infertility treatment, with extensive clinical and academic experience in IVF, reproductive endocrinology, and translational research. His current research focuses on the impact of micro- and nanoplastics, endocrine disruptors, and oxidative stress on female reproductive health and ART outcomes, including follicular fluid, embryonic development, and placental tissues. He is a principal investigator and coordinator of several national multicenter research projects and actively collaborates with international partners in reproductive biology and environmental health.
Dr. Kovacs has authored numerous scientific publications and is actively involved in advancing innovative reproductive technologies and personalized infertility treatments.
