Welcome from the Chairs
We are delighted to announce the 5th International Online Conference on Animals (IOCAN2026), organized by MDPI's open access journal Animals (ISSN: 2076-2615; Impact Factor: 3.2). This year's conference will be held online from 22 to 24 March 2027.
On behalf of the Conference Chairs of IOCAN 2027, we are delighted to invite you to participate in this significant event. IOCAN 2027 will bring together researchers, veterinarians, industry experts, and policymakers from across the globe to exchange innovative ideas, present cutting-edge research, and explore sustainable solutions for the future of animal health and production. The conference will focus on major global challenges, including climate change, animal welfare, declining genetic diversity, emerging diseases, sustainable production, and environmental pressures.
S2. One Health: Improve Disease Manifestation and Management in Animals, Humans, and the Environment;
S3. Sustainable Animal Nutrition;
S4. Animal Physiology, Reproduction, and Sustainable Animal Production;
S5. Aquaculture Systems and Production Strategies in Asia;
S6. Smart Technologies for Sustainable Animal Systems in Europe;
S7. Animal Genomics and Genetic Improvement in the Americas.
A distinctive feature of IOCAN 2027 is its strong regional perspective, with three dedicated sessions focusing on Asia, Europe, and the Americas. These regions were selected because of their broad and highly active contributions to the corresponding research fields, as well as their diverse production systems, management strategies, and technological innovations. By highlighting these major research regions, the conference aims to encourage wider international exchange, promote cross-regional collaboration, and provide deeper insights into both shared and region-specific challenges in sustainable animal science.
As an online event, IOCAN 2027 offers the flexibility to participate conveniently from anywhere in the world, without the need for travel.
We sincerely hope you will join us for this exciting international event and contribute to the global dialogue shaping the future of sustainable animal science.

2. One Health: Improve Disease Manifestation and Management in Animals, Humans, and the Environment
Session 2 will address the One Health dimensions of disease manifestation and management, with emphasis on the connections between animal, human, and environmental health. The session welcomes studies on infectious and emerging diseases, zoonotic pathogens, host–pathogen interactions, surveillance, diagnostics, vaccines, biosecurity, antimicrobial resistance, and environmental or ecological factors shaping disease dynamics. Contributions based on experimental, molecular, genomic, immunological, epidemiological, field-based, or modelling approaches are encouraged. The goal of the session is to promote research that advances integrated and evidence-based strategies for disease prevention and control across species and ecosystems.

6. Smart Technologies for Sustainable Animal Systems in Europe
Today, sustainable livestock production in Europe calls for innovative solutions that combine economic viability with a reduced environmental footprint. In this context, Smart and Precision Livestock Farming technologies are playing an increasingly strategic role in driving the transition towards more sustainable animal systems. By enabling efficient resource use, data-driven decision-making, and continuous monitoring of animals and production processes, these technologies can help farmers enhance productivity, strengthen livelihoods, and promote animal health and welfare.
This session will bring together cutting-edge research across the full spectrum of modern animal farming systems, with a focus on current challenges, emerging opportunities, and recent advances in smart technologies for sustainable animal systems in Europe.
Session Chair
Professor Andrea Pezzuolo, Department of Land, Environment, Agriculture and Forestry, University of Padova, Legnaro, PD, Italy
