Welcome from the chair
Dear Colleagues,
It is our pleasure to invite you to the 1st International Online Conference on Arts: New Currents in the Scholarship of the Visual and Performing Arts. The conference is organized by the MDPI open access journal Arts (ISSN: 2076-0752, Impact Factor: 0.5) and will be held online from 8 to 9 April 2027.
This conference represents a unique opportunity for arts scholars around the world to share their latest research, communicate with each other, solve problems, and suggest alternative options for creating a better future.
Contemporary arts scholarship advances across a multitude of research dimensions, spanning studio practice and visual theory, performing arts and cinematic studies, material culture and design, alongside institutional and curatorial research domains. To accommodate such wide-ranging scholarly progressions, the conference has been structured around four interlinked thematic sessions:
S1. Studio Art, Visual Culture, and Art Theory S2. Performing Arts and Cinema Studies S3. Architecture, Craft, Design, and Material Culture S4. Art Market, Museums, Exhibitions, and Emerging Practices
This thematic framework is formulated to cultivate interdisciplinary academic exchange and provide a holistic perspective on the current landscape and prospective pathways of arts scholarship at large.
As a fully online‑only event with free registration, the conference removes the usual constraints of travel and cost, allowing you to participate from anywhere with minimal logistical burden. All accepted abstracts will be available online on Sciforum.net during and after the conference. The virtual format also enables live presentations and interactive Q&A through the conference platform, making it easier to connect with colleagues across time zones.
Outstanding contributions from each session will be eligible for conference awards. Moreover, instead of limiting presentations to a live poster session, all participants have the opportunity to upload and display their research in the form of a poster via the poster gallery on the conference website. Therefore, all participants with poster submissions for the poster gallery are now eligible for awards!
Your participation is essential to the success of IOCAR 2027, and we warmly invite you to join this vibrant scientific forum. We look forward to your contributions and to a dynamic and fruitful conference!
