Dear all,
It is our great pleasure and honour to welcome you to the 2nd International Online Conference on Fractal and Fractional (IOCFF 2027), building on the success of our inaugural conference in April 2026. Hosted online by the MDPI open access journal Fractal and Fractional (ISSN: 2504-3110; IF: 3.5), IOCFF 2027 will take place from 27 to 29 September 2027 and aims to further advance the theoretical foundations and interdisciplinary applications of these two transformative fields.
As we saw during our first edition, fractals and fractional calculus have fundamentally reshaped how we model and understand complexity across mathematics, physics, engineering, and beyond. The lively discussions and the high quality of the awarded presentations, which include studies on brain criticality, physics‑informed neural networks, and viscoelastic wave equations, have underscored the growing impact of these tools in tackling complex scientific challenges.
IOCFF 2027 continues the tradition of fostering dynamic exchange around recent theoretical methods, advanced computational algorithms, and emerging applications. We invite you to join us in exploring the following general themes (the list is not exclusive):
S1. Advances in Fractional Calculus and Fractional Differential Operators;
S2. Numerical and Computational Methods for Fractional Models;
S3. Fractional Dynamics and Complex Systems;
S4. Fractal Geometry, Complexity and Nonlinear Phenomena;
S5. Fractional Calculus in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science;
S6. Fractional Calculus in Engineering and Physical Sciences.
All scientists and engineers interested in these fields are welcome to participate, share their findings, and engage with a global community of peers. Additionally, we look forward to welcoming numerous internationally renowned speakers who will present their state‑of‑the‑art research through live sessions with comprehensive Q&A segments.

Meet Our Chair
Engineering School (DEIM), University of Tuscia, Viterbo, Italy;Carlo Cattani is a professor of Mathematical Physics and Applied Mathematics at the Department of Economics, Engineering, Society and Enterprise (DEIM), University of Tuscia, Viterbo, Italy, and has held this position since 2015. Previously, he was a professor and research fellow at the Department of Mathematics, University of Rome “La Sapienza” (1980-2004), and the Department of Mathematics, University of Salerno (2004-2015). Earlier in his career, Cattani was a research fellow for the Italian Council of Research, CNR (1978-1980) and a visiting research fellow at the Physics Institute at the Stockholm University (1987-1988) and UPV-Valencia, Spain, in 2000. His main scientific research interests include numerical and computational methods, mathematical models and methods, fractals, fractional calculus, data analysis, computer methods and simulations, artificial intelligence, and computational linguistics. He has authored more than 350 scientific papers in international journals and made significant contributions to fundamental topics such as numerical methods, dynamical systems, fractional calculus, wavelets, nonlinear waves, data analysis, neural networks and artificial intelligence. He is the founder and current Editor-in-Chief of Fractal and Fractional, as well as the author and editor of several books on topics such as wavelets, fractals, nonlinear waves, computational methods, and AI. Cattani has been made Honorary Distinguished Professor at Harran University (2022) and Honorary Professor at Azerbaijan University (2019) and the BSP University, Ufa, Russia (2009), for “his contribution in research and international cooperation”. From 2018 to 2021, he worked as an adjunct professor at Ton Duc Thang University – HCMC, Vietnam. Since 2015, he has been a corresponding member of the Italian “Accademia Peloritana dei Pericolanti”. Due to his many research achievements, Cattani has been listed among the World Top 2% of Scientists (Stanford) since 2019 in the fields of applied mathematics, numerical and computational mathematics, and artificial intelligence.
