He is member of the National Council of Science and Technology in Brazil, and of the National Post-graduate Council in Brazil and member of the Academy of Medicine of Minas Gerais. He has received 112 awards and honors, such as Honor Citizen of Belo Horizonte city, Best Researcher of the National Academy of Medicine, Outstanding Researcher of the Academy of Medicine of Minas Gerais, Best Researcher and also Best Surgeon of the Brazilian College of Surgeons, etc. He is editorial and reviewer member of 109 journals of Medicine. He is author of 556 research articles, 25 books, 178 book chapters and more than 3500 presentations in Medical and Research Meetings.
