Welcome from the Chairs
Welcome to the ISRS 2022
As a General Co-Chair of the International Symposium on Remote Sensing (ISRS) 2022, and also on behalf of the Local Organizing Committee of the ISRS 2022, we sincerely welcome you all to ISRS 2022 virtual conference. This is the third ISRS in Japan since ISRS 2013 held at Makuhari Seminar House in Narashino City and ISRS 2017 held at Nagoya University Higashiyama Campus in Nagoya. ISRS has been held since 1994, and became a joint international symposium based upon the trilateral agreement concluded in October, 2012, among the Korean Society of Remote Sensing (KSRS), the Chinese (Taipei) Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (CSPRS), and the Remote Sensing Society of Japan (RSSJ). In addition to these founders, it is our great pleasure to be cosponsored by the Japan Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (JSPRS) for ISRS 2022.
Remote sensing is the only way to understand information over a wide area, and its importance is increasing day by day. Pumice from an underwater volcano in the ocean south of Japan that erupted in August 2021 has drifted in the Pacific Ocean and washed ashore on a Japanese island, causing great damage. It seems that they have already washed up on the shores of Taiwan and the Philippines. Remote sensing is proving to be effective in tracking pumice in the ocean. Emissions of carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxides are also spreading widely across borders. It is important to discuss remote sensing as a solution to the problems facing East Asia and the world. ISRS 2022 will be a great opportunity for us to exchange our experiences, knowledge, and ideas on remote sensing technologies and applications, as we share the common issues such as environmental problems and natural hazards.
Due to COVID-19, we were not able to organize the conference in 2020, but ISRS2021 was organized online successfully by KSRS in 2021. Originally, it would be best to hold the meeting face-to-face in Matsue as originally planned in ISRS 2022, but this time it will be held online again. While it is difficult to travel to each other, it is wonderful to exchange our academic researches and practical applications. Over the past two years, we have been building up our technical experience in virtual conferences. We are confident that we will be able to overcome our inability to meet in person and have academic discussions and build our friendship and cooperation, especially for our young generation accustomed to new technologies.
We believe that ISRS 2022 will be a successful virtual conference by utilizing intelligent tools to communicate each other, which accelerate our mutual understanding and cooperation in remote sensing fields. We are looking forward to receiving your contributions to this scientific event and would like to thank you in advance for your active support.
Best regards,
Akira Iwasaki
